How fast does your car depreciate?

Bought with scrapage scheme. Paid abit more for metallic paint. Got two trade in prices just over £6500 and we buy any car offer £6525. Book price is £6500 or so I'm told. They sell private this age with about my mileage (7k) for over £7k I believe.

Car I traded in was N reg Primera that was falling apart and I paid £350 for it a year and a half before.

Another Astra, Twintop design... Cost new about 18k, worth about 12k 2 years later with 20k on the clock.

£8.24 a day depreciation by my calculations. Could be worse I suppose.

How could that possibly be worse, you are driving an awful bobby basic low end car and paying through the nose for it?

Book price was 21k (does have all the extras mind). Either way my drive for the no car period will be far worse as I also have a 1.4 56plate corsa... dont ask.

I knew you were going to say that. but there was method to my madness, about two years ago I wrote off what was my pride and joy, A mk6 (duratech engined) escort cabriolet which I had owned for a few years and pilled loads of cash into. Somebody almost died in the accident, a bike T-Bared me at about 60-70mph so my car was confiscated by police on the spot and written off.

Anyway I had no car and my daily commute at the time was 50(ish) miles, so i paniked and bought the Corsa as a stop gap which after 6 months I gave to my Mrs to learn in. Missing my Escort I decided that the Astra would do for the time being, at least until the claim was sorted and luckily the guy recovered.

The insurance was extremely long winded and messy taking roughly 2 years to settle the claim in my favour, so yes I bought 2 Vauxhalls and yes they have both been bullet proof reliable... but now the seas have settled I can get on with things and buy something which I may actually take the time to wash :).

You could have achieved stop gap low end basic motoring for a fraction of the outlay which you have experienced. But whatever, its all under the bridge now :)

My Z4 gained £0.07 per day :)

combination of awesome bartering skills when I bought it and the second hand Market picking up when it came to selling time.

I have classic cars and they only appreciate in value. With the free tax and low insurance it doesn't matter spending a bit more money on them keeping them running :)
