Should I buy a PS3?

I had a 360. I bought it as at the time the PS3 was poor as far as games were concerned. I think the PS3 and 360 about even now as far as games go. Seen as most of the better 360 games come to PC I felt more and more like I didn't needed it so ended up selling my 360 and kept my PS3. Funny how things turned out. It wasn't what I expected would happen.

That's a big plus for me too. I couldn't justify having a PC, Xbox360 and a PS3. But if I did, there would only be 2 games (that I want to play) that I could only play on the Xbox360. The PS3 is building up quite an impressive catalogue of PS3-only games. To someone who doesn't have a gaming PC, well then that point doesn't count for much.

I need you lot to convince me to buy a PS3:D

Should I get a standard or a slim one!?
You haven't really given us much other info such as if you already have other consoles but I'd say yes. Free online, the games you like (you mentioned action games and PS3 has Ninja gaiden sigma 2 and God of war 3) not to mention they are finally a decent price. I'd say go for it unless there's a reason a 360 would appeal more, both consoles have good games but ultimately I prefer 360 titles whereas I'd imagine you'd be happier with a PS3.

360 has some titles go on PC but still enough good ones that don't such as gears, halo, forza, dead rising (original), Lost odyssey, Alan wake, Dead or alive 4 etc. etc. Besides if you've not had an original Xbox before a 360 is a smart choice since you can play some original Xbox titles too.

I like to think I’m not biased to either machine, as I own both, and these are my first consoles in a very long time, ever since PC gaming took hold.

I digress. I’ve said it before on the numerous other threads like this -if you can afford to have both a PS3 and 360, do that, I honestly cannot comment on the Wii as the hour I spent playing one it failed to impress me one bit; but that is just a personal decision mind.

The list that Robert1986 posted honestly sounds like it’s coming from a die hard 360 fan, although well written, it seems that whoever wrote it has already chosen their favourite console and wants to down-play the other. And what BS about not using wifi for gaming – seriously, I very much doubt having a 10/100/1000 connection to your switch/router is really going to give you a boost over a G/N wifi network; both will ultimately be limited by your internet connection speed.

You will rarely get a truly unbiased opinion on these consoles, there’s a big following behind both, and for some truly unfathomable reason, they all feel the need to justly their purchase and argue over the stupidest things! Robert1986’s quote goes quite some way to demonstrate this :D

One other joy of having both – you get to sit on the fence during these ‘intelligent debates’ and see how truly sad some people are :)

That's not how you whip a thread into a frenzy, watch this...ahem....

Get a PS3, the controllers are much better than the 360 ones. More comfortable and better analogue sticks.

You jest, but I do find the PS3 pad more comfortable, one of the deciding factors for buying it:eek:

Yeesh this thread is a bad one :D

"Should I buy a PS3?"

If i were in your shoes, Yes I would buy one.

Why?

I absolutely love the games available on the console, and if i didnt own one...I'd not beable to play them

what a hilarious thread and that cartoon just cracked me up no end lol!!!!!

I'm fussy when it comes to consoles, they stay on my shelf for less than a month as i always get bored and i have had many since the NES days, only 2 consoles have ever stayed with me and those are the original xbox and the ps3.

I loved the xbox and love the ps3 even more and when you have a psp it just gets better as it can be a remote control for your ps3 if your in another room to your setup (which i am usually) and want to listen to music, stream media to it so you can watch a film or music (my lad does this a lot).

sarcasm detection fail.

Heres a good post I picked up on the official ps3 blog. sums it up rather nicely.

> #3 – The PS3 Has Great Games To Satisfy the > Mainstream and the More Discerning Gamer

Metacritic lists 303 Playstation 3 games currently in release. Of those just 99 of them are exclusive to the PS3, which means that 2/3rds of the PS3 library is also available on the Xbox 360.

Of those 99 titles, 35 of them scored less than 70% which means they really aren’t worth owning in the first place.

Flip it around and look at it the other way, the 360 has 587 games, of which 383 are exclusive. Of those exclusives 211 score less than 70%.

So the 360 has more games, better games and, uh, “more better” games.

So 45% of xbox360 are exclusives are "worth playing" compared to 65% of PS3 exclusives? Awesome

There are not 383 games exclusixe to the xbox360.

Right, time for some left4dead....

its pretty crap really.. get a 360 and a blu ray player

p.s I own both -- I loved MGS, Killzone 2 and replaying ico and SOTC.... Apart from that its fairly redundant..apart from upscaling dvd's. Blu ray playback and the occasional bit of iplayer it's not switched on that often.

trust me - i want to love it more - i was a ps2 fanboy! but it does not live up to the 360 if you want a good gaming device.. simple as that.

Nah, we should convince him to get a 360 instead.

PS3 has less games (sometimes quality is better than quantity)
PS3 Online is FREE
PS3 FREE blu ray player

360 has more games
360 online is fatastic (If you like playing with hackers)
360 has a hacked system
360 has red ring (So you end up having to replace)
360 charge you to play online

now which one do you want?

Fixed for you ;)

Seriously though. Just get whatever console your friends have.

Im confused... A good gaming device? I dont see how the PS3 is any lesser of a good gaming device? If the games werent something you enjoy apart from the ones you mentioned fair enough, But thats down to personal preference. There are more exclusives on PS3 that I enjoy than 360. I wouldnt say either of them was better than the other at being a "gaming device" though.

The only logic in buying or not buying a console, is looking at the games you enjoy. Not going off someone elses idea of what good games are.

I thought I would ask here instead of starting another thread. I too am looking into the possibility of a PS3.

What I am most interested in is how it works as a bluray player? I have a Sony bluray player now, but wouldnt mind something to have alongside my Wii. Would replace the bluray player with the PS3, but only if I can expect about the same quality? Any extra comments?

You put the blu-ray disc in and it plays.

If you already own a blu-ray player then you should be looking at the games. Unless you sell your blu-ray player and just get a PS3. The PS3 is a respectful blu-ray player, its no slouch.

Can't believe people took that post seriously. Well, I can't believe anyone takes my posts seriously tbo.

Free blu-ray player?

Sorry, should have made myself clear that I intend on replacing the bluray player with a PS3, so it would need to be decent enough at that for me to consider it.

From what I understand, it is fairly good, but wanted peoples opinions

It is a good player, One of the better around according to a lot of sites. But I've never used anything other than PS3 for blurays so cant comment on that myself. You'd want to buy a remote for the PS3, Although the pad works fine and is wireless. its just a better complete package with the official remote :p
