What's wrong with those Loakes you posted? They're really nice! What are they for? Smart work wear with a suit, or just a casual every day boot? If you're looking for an every day boot, there are loads of options, but like I said, those Loake ones are really rather nice. If it's work wear with a suit, I'd say always go for shoes. Well, unless you work in one of those laid back offices.

Also, I own a pair of H by Hudson which were also £120 - bought around a year ago. Admittedly they're a desert boot so they're suede and not necessarily made in exactly the same way as the pair posted immediately above, but they're really poor quality and falling to bits. I replaced them the other day with good old Clarks Desert Boots which tend not to fall to bits! Just saying, £100+ doesn't necessarily mean you're getting quality clobber.

Really awful quality - I thought they'd last me forever like my last pair of Clarks.

from having worked in a shoe shop until today. I don't think you're going to find a pair of essential high top converse which happen to be brown in leather, It just doesn't exist because it would look retardily stupid. The closest thing you are going to find is some sort of Dc Martin styles shoes. But hey. I'm no real shoe expert, just what was sold at schuch. But what your describing sounds hideous

Thanks for the reply. These are for smart casual - they won't be worn with a suit. I do like the ones in my OP but it's always worth checking for alternatives. I've never had a pair from Loake before but they come recommended, so perhaps I'll just go for them. Now I need to find somewhere that sells them :(
