New President of Nigeria

It's remarkable that all the African leaders I've ever seen have had... how to put this... size 36 waists at least ;)

Clearly, some of the food aid is getting through!

isnt that a japanese racing series?

It's what the Japanese refer to their country as "in japanese".

To a "Japanese" person, they would say they lived in "Nipon" when speaking about their country in Japanese.

Personally, I've never understood why people translated the names of countries, the words "Nipon" and "Japan" are equally meaningless in the English language anyway.

Some one must have literally ignored what the people of the country, called their own country and made up a name for it.

Germany for one, I don't get where that comes from out of "Deutschland"

I remember seeing a politician a few years back in South Africa called Tokyo Sexwhale , it certainly made me chuckle seeing his name pop up on the news.

Germany for one, I don't get where that comes from out of "Deutschland"

Comes from the Latin Germania which Caesar adopted from a Gallic word for the people living east of the Rhine. If you really want to know. I think the Gallic word meant neighbour or something along those lines.

Our four servants were called Clifford, Doreen, Lucky & Friday.
The most funniest Nigerian name I came across was when somebody introduced themselves as Jesus Christ Mercedes Benz (I'm serious).
My Dad used to collect a book of names and their signatures because they were some of the best signatures you'd ever seen.
It was as though all Nigerians would spend a long time to perfect it.

Germany for one, I don't get where that comes from out of "Deutschland"

It comes from the Roman Latin name for the regions both held and out of the control of the Roman Empire (Germania Inferior -NW of the Rhine, Germania Superior -SW of the Rhine and Magna Germania all unconquered lands East of the Rhine) that now losely approximates to the geographic area covered by modern Germany.
