Hi,

Well the time has come for a new television, the wife and i have decided that 37" would be the exact right size to go onto the chimney breast.

We have always had panasonic TV's in the past and have never had any problem with them, however as it has been so long since buying a television we do not know what the best options are.

So, our requirements are as follows:

  • Panasonic
    37"
    Must have freesat/freeview built in
    Cost is not important
Can be a model which is due to come out shortly, we wont be buying until July at the earliest

Thanks in advance for any help received. :D

Get a 42", the panels are better and the extra 5" really do make a difference. A G20 can be had for good prices, and really are awesome plasmas.

Fair enough, but its going to take more than "Get a 42", the panels are better" to get the Mrs to agree.

I should also say that this is for the middle room and we dont want the TV to be the Focal point in the room if that makes sense....thats why we decided on 37".

That said, if the G20 Plasma's really are that good then i will definately consider it, cheers Richdog.

the g20 panels are great, tbh i prefer the picture over lcd, but i have a plasma at home, we have the 37d28 in stock which is a nice telly, led backlight with freeview and freesat hd, but for the money id buy a 42g20 every time.

for the record. I was looking to get a new TV and decided after putting 2 in at work, to get a projector. Optoma do one named HD200x which is 1080p, a fantastic picture quality and only around £750.00. I'm just putting the finishing touches to my install (new sofa/ceiling mounting the projector etc) but intend to post a few piccys when I'm done.

again this was instead of a TV so now there is no unsightly big square sitting in the room and the screen is just a wall which will be painted specifically for the screen.

Do your research, I can never understand why men give it the old "my missus will never agree" over something so insignificant... it's just a TV, she will be used to it in a few days, after hat it will be part of the furniture, it's only a bit physically bigger, man up for goodness sake. The 42" is the minimum size for a Panasonic 42", they don't do them in 37". They are the best TV's available for the money. Simples.

I'd never have guessed :)

I agree though, go for the 42 inch if you can, the choice and quality of models is better. Either go for a G20 or wait and splash out for one of the V series ones.

Got to agree with what you say, its an amazing projector!! I've only had it for 2 weeks, but I've been amazed by the quality. It's also discreet and well hidden. The screen folds up and hides away, with only the projector on show. I would always recommend a projector to those with the wall space or space for a screen. I've shown it to 3 friends so far, and one has gone out to buy one himself, with another one seriously thinking of buying the same projector. :)

Ahh the old 37/42 equation!

Here's my experience.

Around 15 months ago I was after a new T.V.
Listened to the Mrs (faggot I know) and got a 37" Panasonic Px80 (great TV).
Got it home, set it up and both of us immediately wished we'd got the 42 .
2 weeks ago, bit the bullet and bought the 42 G20.
Not trying to sway your opinion but BUY THIS TV!!!!!

Edit: Contemplated the idea of a projector but then I thought, 'whats my furniture gonna point at?' :p

Ah, i thought the "get some balls" issue may crop up.:D

Let me assure you that me having balls has nothing to do with the matter at all, its simply a matter of aesthetics, a couple of our friends have 42" TV's in rooms of similar size to ours and to be perfectly honest they seem a little bit too big.

At the minute we have a 32" Panasonic TX32LXD60 and it seems just a touch too small in the space we have available.

So the idea is that we move this 32" TV into the front room which rarely gets used and have the new one in this middle room with the HTPC and surround sound etc.

I dont really like the idea of a projector at all.

However as i said before, if the 42" ones are the way to go and Plasma over LCD then i will go with that, simply because i like to get value from my money.

Recently bought a 37" Panasonic TXL37G15B and I'm very happy for it and the price I paid - £569 delivered. There are a couple of pictures in this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18137167

It has built in freesat, is 37" and a Panasonic. To my eye the picture is really good on both SD and HD feeds. I never really looked at the plasma panels which I maybe should have done but this TV fit my price needs and I liked the way it looks.

+1 :)

Don't worry about the Mrs, not doubting your balls, but too many comments on here talk abotu the mrs being in control:p

I just bought my 50 when I sold off my 42 kuro and she wen a little mad. It looked huge on arrival and even though she complained then, when we left the rented house she demanded that she take it back home with her :p:D:D

A 42 will easily shrink down in the room over the months, and really is worth it over a 37 which will quckly start to look no bigger than your 42. Plus it seems that they only do 37s now as mentioned above althgouh I'm a little out of the game at the moment.
