First off im not asking for medical advice if my questions are not allowed then please close this thread

So basically last few months been getting headaches a lot, then my right eye started getting blurry.

A few weeks past and my eye was still blurry, so i went and had my eyes tested and i was told im slightly shorted sighted. It turns out my left eye is the culprit and my right eye is blurry as its working overtime for my left eye if that makes sense.

Now my right eye is near enough blurry at all times and the way the optician spoke, i was under the impression i would only need glasses for reading etc if that was the case how comes my right eye is always blurry?

I was also told i cant wear contacts as my eyes are not bad enough for them

The optician has not told me if i need to wear glasses all the time or for close up long distances etc confused.

I have today picked up my prescription glasses and have been trying them since 12 noon been getting major headaches this is expected im guessing.

At first i thought my vision had improved but after a while my eyes were both blurry and objects close and far look worse with glasses on?

So im asking myself do i need to keep glasses on for a few days for my eyes to adjust or should my vision but immediately better at all times when wearing glasses for the first time.

Has there been a mistake by the optician,im a little frustrated.

You will get headaches most likely for the first 7-10 days of wearing glasses. Its not unusual to get headaches or blurry eyes after a period of wearing glasses if your not used to them but if an eye is blurry most of the day I'd get back to the optician/doctor soon it could be the start of something more serious like a detached retina.

If you only need glasses for ocassional use then only use them then - if you need them for more prolonged useage the best time to put them on is in the morning when you get up for a few hours to get used to them.

EDIT: If you use a computer a lot or watch TV/movies on a small screen you might find you need to schedule more regular breaks away from it to let your eyes rest - which might be why its still blurry.

Im the same, well i was. I had one eye which was weaker than the other by just a little bit, so I got glasses. I wore them for just driving and cinema etc. However, by staring at a pc screen everyday for I duno, the best part of 4 years my other eye is now just as weak. So I've been told to wear them everyday. O wells....

And yea, you will get headaches for a while

I would say tho... if you have any doubts about your vision go see your optician or get a second opinion from another optician - an appointment is relatively cheap.

yeah i might do as the optician didnt explain much at all to me considering ive never ever worn glasses before.

Ive decided to take a day off work on monday and go doctors as something is clearly not right

had one eye that was very shortsighted while the other was near enough normal. Glasses were terrible for me , as the difference between my eyes was so great, and I found wearing contacts a bit of a pain - finally I got laser treatment and I'm so glad I did. Best investment I've made as I've now excellent vision and none of the hassles with glasses or contacts.

This isn't right, the only time I've experienced this was when the optician filled my glasses with the wrong prescription.

Sounds like the prescription could be wrong, take them back to the optician straight away and get them checked out.

Terrible in what way? anything ive described? if nothing else is more serious laser treatment is defiantly something i would consider.

Agreed, I had this the last time I had a pair of new glasses ... the eye sight part of the exam was correct but they screwed up one of the measurements for the fittings, (I think it as the eyeball to glasses lens measurement), which meant things were not focusing properly.

Took them back after a week and they checked everything and discovered the error. They replaced the glasses free of charge with a correct pair (which was good as the were very expensive).

I've worn glasses most of my life and yes on occassion they have screwed up the prescription when they've manufactured the lenses.

Headaches galore but as people have said, speak with your optician.

DO THIS
Don't bother your doctor, as you've changed something, so it'll be the 'obvious' thing to check prior to anything else. Sometimes prescriptions are incorrect, and they can require adjusting. The optician who gave you the glasses has a duty of care, and they will happily check the prescription.

As it is your first set, you might have got the calls on green/red better/worse wrong when they were determining your prescription, after 25 years of wearing glasses I often wonder if I am corect when they ask me green or red ;)

Headaches aren't unusual, I still get them after wearing glasses for a long period of time. I get eye strain too. I have -1 correction in both eyes, probably due to looking at computer screens for extended periods, but ah well!

However, if it is making your eyesight worse, something is wrong. If stuff originally appears blurry, the glasses should almost fully correct this; images should be a lot sharper. If you want to try it at home, try reading something on the wall from a distance with and without your glasses - if there is no difference or if it is worse, then take them back as there is most likely an error with your prescription.

Also, whoever recommended seeing a doctor, I don't think that is the best means of action. When I went to the doctor about my eyesight, I was told to go to an opticians as they are more professional. If you have a genuine problem with your eyes that requires more than a pair of glasses/lenses, then the opposite should happen, with the optician sending you to an eye doctor.
