Yes I know there is another thread on this , but I want some advice and I dont want to de-rail the other thread :) .

I Have got an english literature exam on the 25th , I am revising by using these revision guides and notes I have written. I got an E on the mock without any revision :(

Whilst everyone else in my year is also doing the 3 sciences at gcse level and have exams for them at the same time , I do not. I am in a ASDAN Science foundation class which frankly is full of rejects and people with learning issues.
And before you ask , I am in there because of my attendance for the previous year (55%).

In june I have geography and history exams and I am not worried about them , got C in both the mocks without revision :)

Without GCSE science I have no chance of getting into uni and thus any chance of a decent job , I want to try and take this course at college if possible.

You need them to qualify for A-levels which then take you to uni.

Yep, but I don't see why not having a science GCSE would be particularly damaging someone's chance of getting into university?

The OP is acting like it is the end of the world for him :p

Well it depends on what you want to study at uni really :p What texts are you studying for english literature?

You do need to revise the various quotations and interpretations you want to have ready in answering any question you might get, but other than that it's down to your essaywriting and argumentative skills to get you through the exam..

Of mice and men + view from the bridge .

I am the OP :p

D'oh!

Don't worry about it dude. Your life is far from over if you get bad GCSE results, you can always resit, take foundation courses, etc. Unless you want to go into a science related course I can't see it being a problem at all? All of the colleges I applied for were only interested in the number of A* - C grades rather than the individual grades or subjects.

surely the science only matters if your plannin on sciences at a level ?

anyway its not the end of the world. if worst comes to worst then you give yourslef a slap for bad attendance and then re sit the science GCSE at college

theres a lad on my engineering course who had no GCSEs and just had to do a maths class and exam in the summer and then do a foundation degree for a year

also i wouldnt worry to much about that E , just make sure you revise ! i failed all my mocks and then aced all 11 final exams :p

Never studied those myself, maybe other forumites can give you better advice, but the most general advice i can give is just to have strong ideas of the kind of things you might want to argue and compare. You should have a fair amount of sample questions so go through the general interpretations and learn quotations to support various arguments that support them.

The examiner wants to know that you understand the texts, can compare the texts, and can use quotations to back up both your understanding and comparison.

Its really not game over, depends on what you want to study in the future, and you can always do a science gcse outside of school enviroment if it all goes that badly.

I wouldn't worry about the E mocks are always harder than the real thing, its to give you a shock and make you do some revision, so REVISE !

Do the best you can in your science and it may need to be explained at a later date, I should see no reason why it would hold you back.

do what my brother did, go off to college and find an apprenticeship. You get paid whilst you learn, you learn on the job and not just theory based stuff in a classroom, with the added bonus that when you've finished your apprenticeship, you already have experience which will put you in better stead than qualifications alone.

I apologise for my grammar :)

Mocks tend to be past papers so unless they are marked harshly they should be just the same?

French AS mock in Year 11 was funny though, got an A but came out of the real exam one mark above a U. Serves them right for putting me into some stupid exam for a subject I didn't care about.

Looks ace on my high level results though. A*A*A*A*A*AAAABU :D

Do short-course grades count?

I really hope thats the case

Thank you all for reassuring me that it isn't gameover. The teachers very much make out that it is ! .

I did of Mice and Men at my GCSE's good book but i cant really remember much about the questions so not much help i'm affraid. I got a D in PE and got onto A-level PE so i wouldnt worry about it too much. I was like yourself in the mock test got a D and E but ended up with BB much to my suprise. Compare notes with class members and friends from another class with another teacher? they may have something more to add. Also have a one to one with your teacher if you're worried about it.

Seems to me that the most important thing is to learn quotes.
Just remembered my english teacher saying that the only thing stopping me getting a C in the mock was that I didn't include any quotes at all.
