Hi,

I have a week off coming up, and I'm attending two motor sport events, one at each weekend either side of my week off. So I'm going to be hiring a Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 and I will have it for the whole week.

I'm trying to think of other things I could do during the week in order to make the most of having the lens.

Any suggestions?

My only idea so far is a trip to the zoo.

Thanks!

Mach loops not to far from you, you'll love it,....... bit like fishing, never know what you'll get!!!!.

You could also try some street photography, sports events or perhaps some portrait shots :)

Squeezo watch out, your pushing contrast very very hard and loosing lots of detail. The saturation is also very, very harsh (pushed much too hard in somecases).

Like the bird shot and the tilt-shift though. Very creative.

I'd be interested in how you get on with this lens, I've been looking at one of these or the 300 f2.8 as a potential purchase.

Thanks for the tip p0ss3s3d, sometimes i get carried away with the processing and/or lightroom presets. I recently noticed that there is a huge difference in my shots when comparing between my laptop screen and my Sony bravia. Contrast and saturation seem very extreme on the bravia, but on the laptop screen its seems acceptable. With regards to calibrating monitors, colours etc, i havent got a clue :)

EDIT: Sorry for going off topic on this but would it be wiser for me to process my images using the Bravia screen with its higher levels of saturation and contrast and therefore getting results that would be closer to an image done on a calibrated monitor?

Unfortunately im not in a position to be able to purchase a calibrator at the moment and i dont know anybody who i can borrow one from. Just looking for a temporary fix until i can get my hands on one :)

quick fix, edit the same photo on each screen and then post here, those of us with calibrated screens can tell you which looks the best.

that's about all you can do for now.

Thats the same weight as the other 300 2.8 options so thats no big deal. Most people could handhold that and a 1-series for most of the day without too much hassle. It's not untill you get to the 400 2.8 (;)) or 500/600 f/4's where a monopod becomes essential as they weight between 4 to 7/8kgs.

*waiting for someone to stroll in and tell us they can handhold an 800mm f/5.6
:p
