Planes - best place to sit?

Hi all,

Going to turkey with the family (4yr old, 21 month old and the mrs and I).

Wheres the best place to sit? Thought it would be the ones by the exits as they have more legroom but not allowed to have the infant there.

Any ideas?

I had always thought over the wings was the strongest part of the plane. I could be completely wrong however. As my second answer I'll say wherever they keep the black boxes :)

hehe in the cabinet with the box!

I was thinking the wings, but the little'uns might like to see out of the window, and would be nice if they saw more than wings.
 
It's going to be a one-class charter Airbus anyway so it doesn't really matter - but the middle of the plane is less suscepitable to turbulance IIRC?
 
On a plane, for a few hours flight? The best place to sit? It has to be as far away from the 4Yr old and 21Month old as possible.
 
Bulkheads.
If it's one class, there may still be 'Economy Plus' and you'll get an extra bit of room.
If you have an infant, you should let the airline know as they can arrange for a cot to be placed in some places - usually the bulkhead. This'll give you more leg room.

I booked a bulkhead when I was coming back from Moscow. There were two kids in cots there. I got bumped up to Business. :D
 
It really depends on the aircraft type and the airline. That being said, I'd just go for as near the front as possible. Going to be quietest there and it's also going to be near a toilet....ideal for kids.
 
As you are travelling with an infant, you won't be allowed to sit in any of the emergency exit rows and if you do, you will be moved.

As someone else said, it is quieter toward the front of the aircraft so that may be your best bet.

Its a Boeing 757-300 apparently. The other flight is an airbus though.

I doubt it will be a 300 series, they're a tad rare in this part of the world. More like a 200.

It'll go up well thats for sure ;)

I saw a documentary about this, and you're correct - the plane is structurally soundest above the wings. So you have more chance of surviving a crash above the wings. Unfortunately you're also above the fuel tanks, so you have more chance of burning to death in the resulting fireball.

I think the conclusion was it was best to be as near to the emergency exits as possible (the ones with more leg room are "premium economy" I think these days) and make sure you know which row the exits are on from where you are seated e.g. 7 rows towards the front of the plane.
