got an imac on my desk its got a nice big screen but there is a 40inch lcd like 3/4 ft away that i would like to hook up to it so i can use plex, i heard apple were teasing about releasing a mini displayport to hdmi but nothing so far, but i do believe there are third party options like the ones by Dr Bott any one have such an adapter

I've got a cheapo mini DP to HDMI adapter from an auction site and it works like a charm on my MBP. Any cheap adapter will carry video no problem at all but to carry audio too you will need an expensive mini DP+USB to HDMI cable.

I use a Neet adaptor for this very use.

Can't link to where I bought it as it's a competitor. Sorry.

I am using an Apple mDP to DVI adaptor, and a PureAV DVI to HDMI cable. Not the cheapest option (cos you know how expensive Apple kit is, and PureAV are even worse), but it works great.

just found "Mini DisplayPort + USB AUDIO to HDMI" thats by Neet on the jungle for £45 this might seem expensive but its about £20 cheaper than other makers ones like Dr Bott, any good then

My Neet adaptor is very well built, and has never given any problems.

(It's plugged in to a 60" Pioneer Kuro)

I bought a cheap (~£10) adapter for my MBP and it works like a charm. However, you'll need the more expensive USB audio version if you want to output sound from older Apple machines.

It's only the very latest iMac's and MacBook Pro's released this year that support audio over DisplayPort and Apple don't make an official adapter for it, there are plenty of other people who do though.

I have a USB Audio Mini Display port to HDMI cable that I got from Amazon for £40.

It works well, but for some reason audio cuts out on my iMac but not my MacBook Pro.

heard you have to enable usb audio in system preferences i assume you did that with it work on you MBP ????

Yeh, it wouldn't play sound if I didn't :p.

I get sound from the iMac just every 5 minutes it cuts out for 2 seconds or so before coming back.

Very annoying and I can't find anything on Google about it.

well cable came yesterday, plugged it in last night only to find its faulty, nasty hissing sound with static mixed in with it and the picture has artifacts on the screen, tried with a few hdmi cables and a different tv still no join its the same on both my imac and mbp :( sent an email to Neet via the jungle its a waiting game now

A mini dvi to hdmi cable can be had from mac at £50 but am sure if you google it you can find one much cheaper!
