Great looking car, i really need to testdrive a Mk3.5, as you know i don't like the Mk3, it looks far too soft and doesn't drive like an Mx-5 should, looks like Mazda have pulled the same trick they did when facelifting the Mk2 to Mk2.5.

I look forward to your future posts about the Mk3.5, its going to be interesting to see how much you enjoy it, given the other cars you have owned / driven if the MX-5 can still put a smile on your face it just goes to show how fantastic these little cars are.

When you eat steak all the time it is nice to have some kebab now and again! (I cleaned that up)

You have to tune yourself into a car like this when you come from any big saloon car not least one with an excess of go such as my RS. Though we are running the car in as is my preference, I came off the M6 at J18 on the way home yesterday simply so I could take it on some twisty roads. Not taking it over 4000rpm until it has 500 miles on the clock at which point I will add 500rpm per 100 miles, my normal way until it has access to full rev range around 1000 miles. Getting my wife to follow this regime isn't a problem either as she is a good driver and has always run her cars in very similar. No labouring, no constant speeds, no cruise control and no full throttle.

The car is already putting a smile on my face, it has bags of feel, lovely controls and is a nice and precise 2 seat sports car from the old school. It's not about power, for it has very little, it's about momentum which I will explore when it has more miles on it. I am 6'1 tall and did wonder about getting a good seating position and I am perhaps higher than I would prefer to be but not so my head is on the roof. I can lower the seat, push it all the way back and get a pretty good driving position. It does have some body roll but I am told most MX5's do and that takes some getting used to when you come from cars that are pretty rock solid but it is brilliantly damped and deals with ruts and pot holes fantastically while maintaining good feel which is the indication of a great road car in my book. So much smoother than her S-Line A4 which people probably wouldn't expect but it is.

Time will tell how we get one with it but looking forward to some old school fun in the coming year or so.

Very true, but then again you will never get fedup of eating steak ;)

I think its a car that both of you will enjoy very much, i just hope Mazda put the effort in to make the owenership experience a rememberable one.

Its a shame Buxton has Specs on it, once the cars run in take it from the Bosley crossroads up towards the top, mine never failed to impress on that road, it give's the car a good workout (slow / fast / bumps and lots of compressions).
