Feeling ripped off by Nintendo

Had mine stolen and had to face up to this fact too... it sucks, but please don't point people towards the PS3.

The Wii is a good machine and offers games that just don't exist on the other platforms; super Mario galaxy, Mario kart, red steel 2, to name a few...

why not?
ever since the wii came out it was sooooo over rated ,when i first saw it it had no attraction to me i wrote it off there and then as a kids console end of, xbox and ps3 attracted me a lot more and have not regretted buying those instead of the wii, and yes i have played the wii and i still don't like it, but i can't deny they do have some good games, but so do xbox and ps3.

One of the best things about the Wii is the ability to play all the retro games legally

as mentioned in nearly EVERY thread going when the console fan boys pop up.

Get all three stop moaning and enjoy what each has to offer.

Cry more.

. And the Wii doesn't need "3 extra controllers" to make it work properly. ..

To use your Wii you need.

Wii Remote
Wii Nunchuk which you get bundled in...

However to use it properly you need to add on top of that, a..........

MotionPlus
Classic Controller
Gamecube Controller.

I count 3 there... What about you?

That said I agree you should have a license to use it on one machine at any time (i.e. so if you lose your machine or it breaks etc, your "account" is still active). Just like how DLC works on other consoles I suppose

Yup some corporate ***** sat at a table and said hey if we do it this way, we'll make more money and they all agreed. TRUE COLOURS !

An account and you own what you buy could have easily been implemented. But they choose to continue with this dirty tactic at the expense of annoying the few that find out the hard way.

The same controller argument could be used with the other consoles though! Guitar hero games that need extra controllers/rock band/lips/singstar/ eyetoy games

?

Not really. The Nintendo items should have been included. Not bolt ons. ESPECIALLY THE MOTIONPLUS No-one expects a guitar bundled in. But a regular controller is not asking too much. Then only to find out it doesn't work on GC titles was the final nail in the coffin.

Just another dirty Nintendo tactic. Get em some more.. Sucker them in with a less expensive console but in reality it's going to cost them much more than it would have if they picked up a much better PS3 or XBOX360.

SF2 was a much larger cartridge - 16mbit compared to 4mbit for Super Mario World, Zelda, Pilotwings etc. The ROM was the most expensive part of making up a game's cost and that has to be passed on the wholesalers who pass it on to the retailers. So your example from 1992 doesn't really work. :p

Why was the Mega Drive version only £40 then?

Correct me if im wrong but the motion plus is only an optional extra (like all of the above controllers mentioned)

See what I did there? :p

They are not making you buy the additional controllers, its you who is choosing to buy them. Just because certain games doesn't work with the extra peripheral doesn't mean you have been ripped off by Nintendo at all.

I have my wii without a wii motion plus and ive yet to find a reason that would warrant the purchase of it. Just because you are thin skinned and have no control over you wallet doesn't mean other companies are ripping you off.

Milking you for your stupidity however might be a more accurate phrase.

Megadrive version blew goats.
SNES version was superior in every way.

As for the OP, no luck. But that's DRM for you, this kind of thing doesn't just affect Nintendo Wii's, and as far as I'm concerned the more people that get burned by this practice of 'locking down' etc the better, as it means the problem becomes one for the average Joe, and not just geeks that care about these things. When average joe gets affected in large enough numbers then, and only then will something be done. Witness the fiasco of Avatar BR not even playing on a whole bunch of bluray players etc.

Anyone who's considering buying a Wii, should put their money into a PS3 Much better tech, much better games

Just something that was posted in a thread here a few days ago that made me snigger. :)

In all seriousness though, all three consoles have their pros and cons and a lot of those pros and cons are subject to the persons individual tastes. People could argue that the Wii has better games than the PS3 because they're a fan of Mario, or PS3 fans could say that the PS3 has better games purely because they like Metal Gear and Killzone. The point is that all 3 consoles have their strengths and all 3 of them can be enjoyed, one doesn't have to be better than the other, they are all co-existing at the moment anyway so just pick them all up if you can and enjoy them all. On the subject of peripherals, all three have stupid extras that you really need to buy to get the most out of the console but that's just part of owning a console in this generation unfortunately, you can't expect the manufacturers to give you every peripheral you'll ever need right in the box.

Bit of a hassle but you could switch the shells, it's not too hard. I've done it and I'm no good at that sort of thing.

MegaDrive version was CE, and was at least a year after SF2 on the SNES at which point larger cartridges were becoming a lot more normal. That would be my guess. Nintendo also took a much bigger fee for third party licensing than Sega at the time (something like £6 per game cartridge).

I paid £69.99 for Turok on the N64 back in the day because it was on a massive catridge (compared to Mario 64 and Pilotwings which were smaller, and therefore cheaper) :o

Nintendo already lose a lot through piracy on the Wii so I guess they need to make the money back somehow. :p

The final nail in the coffin that made you go and buy another Wii?
