Planes - best place to sit?

Single class planes, I prefer the back or front close to the exits so I can get off the plane quickly and not get stuck behind slow pokes which usually include 80% of the passengers.

This behaviour has always fascinated me. Upon landing, everyone stands up, puts their jackets on, get their bag and then stand about for a few minutes until released. I just stay sitting and often one of the last out. Far more comfortable, and you only have to do more waiting once in the terminal.
Same behaviour interests me at the cinema. People are too busy to go than just stay for the moment!

Its like when people queue at the gate when they have a ticket number with a seat on it. Why the urge to sit on the plane for longer while everyone else boards?

Seat-wise I normally try to get nearer to the front so I get my first drink served quicker. ;)

Your best bet is not to worry where you sit too much but plan an escape route if things go pete tonge.. Listen to the safety brief, pay attention to where the exits are and the underfloor lights incicating the route to the exits.
Above the wings is the strongets part of the plane but remember that the wings join to this point so in a crash the wings will rip the fuselage to pieces at this point especially if it goes in a bit sideways. The very rear were the tail joins the fuselage is also a very strong point and will usually remain in one piece.
Fire is a big problem in a crash caused by the fuel vapour. Aviaition fuel is not very flammable but the vapour is lethal..

Best bet is to enjoy the flight and not worry about what could happen, You have more chance of being killed by space debris...

Twice in my life, I actually had to leave the plane as quickly as possible and run to catch a connecting flight because the one I was currently on was delayed.
(Reason?: They didn't have a first aid kit on board and late passengers, well passengers first then realised they didn't have first aid)

Not to mention the stupidly slow walking people in the gate hallways that don't get out of your way and slow you down when you do get off, get some spatial skills for god sake!

When i read the Op it seemed like it was me writing it...almost the exact same circumstances.

Where abouts are you off to A[L]C and when?

Also did you miserable buggers who moan about kids crying on the flight not go on holiday when you were little?

You won't be allowed emergency exit seats with children, I believe the minimum age is 16 to sit there. If you request a sky cot for the little one then you should get bulkhead seats. Some planes have middle seats with extra legroom that don't have bulkheads in front of them so the best thing to do is check your plane on seatguru and go with the recommendations there :).

Long haul, it's worth stumping up for business class to get away from screaming kids and fatties.

For most people, it is really not. Not everyone can afford to spend hundreds of pounds extra per ticket for a few hours, of which most, they will probably be sleeping/watching a film

Go at the front... then you get to your target destination sooner as you are ahead of most people. :p

It's going to be a one-class charter Airbus anyway so it doesn't really matter - but the middle of the plane is less suscepitable to turbulance IIRC?

middle of plane = more turbulance but safest place to be.

back of plane = less

front of plane = less noise

source : me being paranoid of crashing and reading up on stuff like this all the time.

Sorry to jump on the thread but does anyone have any experience of the Boing 777-300er and the Airbus Jet, and where is best to sit?
