Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice and info.
Girlfriend has had the tailgate glass on her C2 smashed by what I can only assume was a drunk **** last night.

Unfortunatly her Tesco basic insurance doesnt have glass cover (which she didnt know and will now be adding.)

Autoglass just gave me a quote of £502 to replace or £393 if we pay when we book it.

Now considering I can see complete tailgates on ebay with glass for £45 this seems a complete rip off.

Is there any other routes I should consider before hunting for a black c2 tailgate with glass to replace the entire thing myself?

Also does anyone know any good breakers yards around the taunton/somerset area.

Cheers,

ash

cant help specificly but it may not be drunken yobs

ive known a couple of cars have their windscreen just shatter for no apparent reason.

Usually due to stress caused by temperature changes and the taigate design etc..

Autoglass are ripping you off.

Find an independant Indy? Glass Specialist in your area. I had mine replaced for around half the cost Autoglass and the other companys wanted.

This was the Windscreen in my 306 btw.

I would definitely look at changing the whole tailgate if you can't get a piece of glass at a reasonable price. It's as easy as changing a door in a house (until you get to the wiring and swapping the boot lock, which is a bit more fiddly)

Give a Citroen dealer parts department a ring and ask them for a price for the glass as a starting point.

They try some independant glass fitters - you should be able to get this done for under £100.

It will be horrendous. A sunroof for my ZX was over £500. Don't forget that there is a heated screen here too, so the glass itself is probably going to be at least £100 for an OEM or pattern part.

I'd suggest a new tailagte in the same colour from a tat yard will be the cheapest route here.

I remember when My C2 GT rear windscreen smashed, It made an awful loud bang. Ohh Wait I rolled the car 3 times thats why.

Remembering correctly there isn't a huge amount to do on these windows. so yes Auto glass are ripping her off and I would be inclined to go at it myself. but then again i do quite a lot to my cars and bikes.

Defiantly ring around, autoglass quoted me a similar price to replace a windscreen, got it done for £110 in the end by a local firm

however true I know that to be it was the footprints on the bonnet of the car behind that lead me to my conclusion
