Asus rampage III Extreme

I've just disabled HT instead, 1.35v is enough for 4.2 Ghz at just 70 degrees.

HT ruins my CPU. I cant do 4 Ghz + with HT on right now unless I reseat my CPU cooler until it improves, and that took me ages to get right before. I think that I'll just try tightening it a little bit, because I didnt tighten it too much this time.

Really, my chip is bad. Cant wait for I7-970. Also I turned LLC down fro 100% to 50% which made it more stable with a higher voltage setting, bit slightly lower load volts with better temps.

Other peoples I7 920 D0 results make me :(.

I think im going to risk it once these motherboards come into stock on OCUK.

i just hope this board is as awsome as my biostar Tpower x58 board is becuse i love my current board.

and if i get this board im going to have to sell my current board to add the funds to it
im not sure its worth the risk.

does anyone know if this board uses AMI bios`s for SLIC implamentation ?

so is that a bios setting ? i understand then having HT on gives u 8 threads which is better but requires higher voltages?

Yes, HT = 8 threads, but 15 degrees higher temps and more voltage needed.

Better to just turn of HT and make your I7 into a pretend I5 for an easy 4.2 Ghz :).

but people do usually OC to 4.2 with HT on dont they ?, is that happening to you cause of the board or is ur heatsink not seated properly ?

Most likely that the heatsink is not properly seated. I had 4.2 Ghz with HT enabled before with 1.4v, core temperatures with 100% load being at 87 / 84 / 82 /81 and fully 24/7 stable, but that only happened after reinstalling it a few times and after I got MX3. I did use MX3 this time as well, but it looks like the heatsink didnt go on properly (core 1 reached 91 degrees, and it definately isnt stable). So I've disabled HT now untill I bother with reseating the cooler.

hmm your the second person 2 say the R3 has clocked there chips lesser then previous board. Maybe should wait for more poeple yo o/c as my ud5 does 4.2 HT on @1.33 81c max... dam Gig for there poo pcie spacing!

I wouldnt blame my results on the mobo, even on the UD5, it took me a very long time with several heatsink reinstalls, and new bioses before I managed to reach 4 Ghz+ (I needed MX3 and a few reseatings on that board too).

I have a bad chip that is difficult at 4 Ghz+ with HT enabled, so dont take my results as anything to do with the board.

Oh, another thing - I just loaded up Guild Wars, and the sound on this motherboard is absolute pants compared to the UD5 with its Dolby Digital stuff :(

I tried going into the sound properties and fiddling about, but its still rubbish, and the X-Fi Titanium HD still isnt out yet :( :( :(.

I really dont know why they cant have bundled one of those supreme X-Fi cards with it, I could have used some kind of cheap stop gap, but I dont want to waste money on the normal X-Fi titanium, or even the blue £40 one when I know that the HD is on the way.

Have you checked if the chipset cooler is in the way preventing the cooler from seating properly?

Could OC let me know where I am in the pre-order queue pleaseee

Order Number :- OC1007878

Its the only part i'm missing for my new build

Hardware going into new build:-
Intel i7 980 x Extreme
Corsair Dominator 6GB 2000Mhz
2 x Zotac GTX 480's

Bois 0531

Guys,

I got my board and installed win7 x64 on 2 raptors in stripe 0. I ran into trouble with running Crysis. Crysis crashed in SysWow64\kernelbase.dll. After a reinstall attempt of windows it refused to install in the stripe set. This problem went away after installing the new bios that was posted on this forum.

System is up and running again. I'll keep you posted on progress with overclocking.

Just reading other threads and 3 people have the NB idle at 79c+ on closer inspecion it looks like all three users are missing 1 out of the 2 NB screws so check your temps people , hope it helps someone :)

Well, I definately have both NB screws installed :). I had a nightmare installing the larger cooler because the two longer screws dropped out of its box when I opened it and I didnt realise it had them, and I were frantically trying to install it with the stock heatsinks screws. I were like 'NOOOOOO, How can this not fit? It must fit! What am I doing wrong? Surely there must be some longer screws for it .... search .... find .... /facepalm'

Where do you check NB temperatures anyway?

I have these two pictures as well, they should be landscape, but imageshack automatically rotates them on upload making them look wrong :(

You can see the fan clip over the NB cooler in the bottom picture - I have to remove the clip from the bottom to fit my side pannel on, otherwise the clip and fan are pushed too far up.
