what is a 890x? seen as i want amd but dont want 890gx (8x, 8x lanes) and want 2x full 16 lanes is the 890x a cheaper solution over a fx and what does it lose ?

cheers

Don't think AMD have announced the 890X yet, so there's no infomation on it yet. But it will probably be released later in the year.

might want to remove that link fella.

ok done uoops..

anyway, you saw the board?

its a 890x right ? cheaper than fx and no onboard GPU, which means 2 x 16 lanes.

seems like an odd one?

"The GA-890XA-UD3 based on AMD 790X chipset, it supports new generation of 45nm AMD AM3 Phenom II/ AthlonII processors, integrated DDR3 memory controller, HyperTransport™ 3.0 technology links and 2 PCI Express 2.0 graphics interfaces with ATI CrossFireX support. With the latest innovative GIGABYTE USB 3.0/ 3X USB power/SATA3 6Gbps & Easy Energy Saver technology, the GA-890XA-UD3 is able to provide amazingly fast data transfer via USB3.0 connectors, also to reach the maximum system performance easily while still able to save the power and environment in real life at the same time."

so its a 790fx with usb 3.0 and sata 6g but in 2.0 16 lanes it says it runs 2x8lanes?

if 790x is anything to go by, the 890x will have 8x/8x anyways. :/

which means you may aswell got for GX as that is also 8x 8x lanes in crossfire due to onboard GPU sapping lanes :(

on a side topic.. where the bloomin hell are the 890FX boards ? i know there are lots of different ones coming out but ive been waiting for ages now

The 890FX boards are a bit of a joke, they aren't any more fully featured than the best 790fx boards, ok the Asus 790fx was a joke in terms of prices but £100-110 got you a top end 790fx board, £140 for the Asus crosshair which is the same as any other £110 board, with a silly colour scheme and lots of names for automatic overclocking features no one in their right mind uses when they spend £140 on a mobo.

Honestly you lose VERY little with 2 8x pci-e slots over 2 16x pci-e slots so the 890gx boards are the best ones to have in terms of value, but there SHOULD be £100 890fx boards around and I'm not sure why their aren't yet.
