This thread might lead to all sorts of a disaster but here goes anyway!

I have been reading over some of the other religion type threads and notice the anti-Christian rants where people claim to be 100% sure that there is no such thing as God.

That got me thinking - what about the dark side - do people believe that there is a devil, a satanic power?

We all have heard of devil worshippers and the like. Are they to be rubbished as phychos in the same way that other religious people are on here?

Lets see where this goes - I might regret it! :)

Devil/Satan is a creation of religion. If you 100% don't beleive in God then you can't beleive the devil either.

However, I do love the film's Constantine take on things though ;)

The Devil or Satan or what ever the Adversary is called could be considered to be just the anthropomorphic embodiment of our own deep-seated emotional needs and fears.

So Satan could be seen as the personification of our own Fear and Hatred. A good example would be the Grim Reaper or Death.

Anthropotheism is ascribing human form and or nature to the Gods, be it good or evil or something in between.

The grim reaper is my friend, i have him sitting on my desk....long story but it reminds me not to worry about those un-founded fears and thoughts, hes a good tonic!

As an agnostic-atheist I can not claim to know that a deity does not exist but I do not believe that one does. The same logic would apply to satan which in my view is another construct of man to plug the holes, whitewash (or in this case paint black) the grey areas, control people and ensure that they waste chunks of their short lives fruitlessly.

I believe "Satan" was probably a later addition to the Judeo-Christian religions, an attempt by the organised church to increase and solidify their position of power in society through fear, far from the benign philosophy of compassion and mutual cooperation they began as.

I'm reminded of this quote from Dogma

Organized religion destroys who we are by inhibiting our actions, by inhibiting our decisions out of, out of fear of some, some intangible parent figure who, who shakes a finger at us from thousands of years ago and says, and says, "Do it... do it and I'll ****** spank you."

Oh wait no i'm not .. i don't exist? he he :p

on a serious note of course he don't bloody exist, now stop reading the story book called the bible.

And you have solid proof of this??...that the devil/satan doesnt exist??

Seeing as your quite adamant in your rebuff of Satan/Devils existence...
