EA Blocks Multiplayer Mode on Used Games XBOX360/PS3/PC

Blame the likes of Game/Gamestation for their own robbery from the game studios in the first place.

As I said earlier they inflate the new price by a few quid to say £42.99, then put the second hand game at £39.99. They have probably given £20 to somebody for that game so they make £20 straight off where as they will make much less from the same product new.

I'm surprised it has lasted this long, but last christmas was certainly the worst for this 'price fixing'.

My mate is an assistant manager in game and says they make fa on 'mint' stock, all the money is in pre-owned.

I know they do, I was talking to the manager of the shop in Solihull when I worked in CPW 4 years ago, and he said exactly the same thing.

He was having daily conference calls with head office about how on target they are for 'preowned sales'. I also imagine it's much the same now with the used console market as well.

It's slowly been coming but I was honestly disgusted with the practice at Christmas time.

I am glad that developers/producers are taking steps to ruin this practice.

This is really not good for me as I buy a lot of used games from Game, Gamestation or the likes of, simply for the cheapness. I would love to download 360 games but have no sodding clue lol.

So, for people like me, it is going to stop me playing the full game for which I have already paid my money for???

May as well just go buy it brand new, which again, is not something I like doing.

If I am going to be honest, this is a utter scam, it's the whole secuROM crap all over again just on the console.

ags

I can honestly say I will never buy another EA game again, shame really, as that new crysis game was going to come out on the console.

EA won't mind you not buying another one of their games, as far as they'd be concerned you never have if you only buy second hand.

It's only you that would suffer from a boycott of EA games, not EA.

so hang on, youv pretty much proven two points of why this has to happen. first if you could you would download games - adding to piracy.
and this is enough of a deterant to make you go buy it new - which is there point. (so they actually get the money not the shop)
its not a scam and has nothing to do with securom.

its about putting the money back where it belongs, the shop doesnt make games the devs do and they need the money else we wont have the games. (common sense i thought) - we can live without the shops being around and just get it all online like most peps do now anyway.

game/gamestation can live selling their tat - and if they cant then its not exactly a big deal for the industry and devs might actually start seeing some of their returns for once.

Problem is, without pre-owned, I don't think Game would survive.

I can't say I'm that bothered to be honest since I buy my games brand new for cheaper then they are pre-owned anyway. A recent example is FF13, only 2 months after release and it only cost me £18. I also remember last year when Halo 3: ODST had just been released, I was in Blockbuster having a look around and I saw the game brand new for £30 and a used version for £35

The used game market is a joke, the developers/publishers i.e the people who actually work their asses off to make the game see nothing from used sales.

What's wrong with Game?

game need to team up with one of the big supermarkets imo before its to late get rid of their own stores and stick a mini store in every large tesco or wherever and then they dont have to compete with supermarkets just give them a small cut and the customer is still likely to have someone selling games that knows about them

Why would the larger supermarket do this? They sell the games themselves, no point in playing someone else a cut of the profits if they dont have to.

Its not like game are cheap anymore. They used to be the cheapest around then they got greedy.

Valid point to a degree. But what about the original buyer? Would they still buy the game if they thought it had no re-sale value. At the moment you can buy a game, play it and then if you want trade it in for a fair price. Then pay a little more for another game.

I think this would put doubts into the mind of the buyer and possibly lose EA a sale.

Certainly not the case for me.

By the time I have played a game through they are worthless as a trade in.

Yeah I spoke to the manager of Game a few years back now and I remember him saying that over 80% of their profit is pre-owned.

I like to buy games and sell them on after I finish them. If they're going to go down this route it'll put people off buying second hand meaning I have less money to buy new games. Piracy here I come.

Its a crock of ×××× . Just another excuse to get more cash, as we have seen with mw2 on the pc. Tell me where i can download games for my ps3 and get a burner and blueray discs. Piracy isnt worth it on the ps3, its cheaper to buy the game.

Like someone said in a post earlier, you dont see car manufaturers moaning that they are losing money because people buy 2nd hand cars. Lots of people sell their games so they can buy new ones. If you effectively destroy the price of a 2nd hand game, the person selling isnt going to buy. As many new games.

You can blame everything on piracy and the 2nd hand market, but they just want to sqeese as much cash out of you as possible.

All the idiots who bought MW2 on the pc and pay for maps are just giving the publishers more reason to screw us.

Buy less games then. Sorry, I fail to see a problem myself. Might be from my days as a PC gamer, but I don't see the problem. You can still sell your games, it's just that they'll have limited functionality, and therefore a lower value.

Bring on digital downloads.

Agree. The same can be said about selling old music CDs and DVDs. Just a case of a very greedy company getting greedier.

What happens if everyone feels the same as me and buys less as a result? Companies make less money and put up the prices again whilst blaming the increase on piracy.

I know quite a few people (mainly kids of family friends) who can only afford to buy new games by trading in their old ones. This will lower the price they get for old games hence they wont be able to buy new games therefore less sales of new games.

Personally I have only had a PS3 for a few months and I don't really play online so this will be good news for me as pre-owned games will get cheaper because of lack of online play features that I won't use. Therefore less sales of new games.

It will be interesting to see if this works for EA.
