EA Blocks Multiplayer Mode on Used Games XBOX360/PS3/PC

A lot of people arguing against it also seem to be missing the point that you can buy the MP functionality for $10 after a 7 day free trial.

Chances are you could get the game and pay the fee and it be cheaper than the retail price.

I personally don't tend to buy second hand games though. I've always found it a bit of a con that when a new game is released, they will give you a meager amount of trade in value for it, yet they will price it back up at near the full retail price.

You also have to be careful as I've seen in both Game & HMV, copies of a game available brand new that is cheaper than the copies they have which are pre-owned!

I don't understand the car comparison...
Very likely that people will have to buy parts and they may take it to the main dealer for servicing etc. They must still make some money from that?

I buy pre-owned if it's bargain things I'm not really bothered about, e.g. Kameo and R6:Vegas for "something to do". Essentually, it's just denying developers/publishers money though. How can that be right?

Fine. Since EA dont know how to stomp out quitters from online matches in Fifa. I'll quite happily buy a cheaper second hand copy of the game and enjoy the offline elements.

I rent my SP games, but buy my online games.
I get the best of both worlds then, without having to fork out the extra $10 tax.
Fact is, if an online game is any good, you'll have it for months anyway, by which time it'll have lost most of it's resale value.

I don't see the problem, if you want a game that bad, then wait a few months and pick it up new for £17.99 from Zavvi/Play/Shopto in a deal or something.
If you don't have enough money to buy something, then wait for it to come down in price, simple logic.

They're basically trying to cheat the free market to get around the fact that you can sell games second hand. They can't stop you selling second hand games, so they're trying to make it less desirable to buy them. The problem is that there is no appreciable difference between used games and new games - it's not like a car, where a second one is appreciably less valuable than a new one for obvious reasons. However, what EA are doing is like forcing you to pay Ford when you buy a second hand Focus so that you can drive on the motorway. It's an artificial limitation of the product. If there's a market for second hand games, and you feel that's at cost to you, drop your prices. If that means profits are lower, cut your costs. That's how supply and demand is supposed to work.

It's nothing to do with that in my eyes, they see places selling used products at levels close to new prices, which have been inflated by the retailer to price the new product out of the desireable range to the end consumer.

Its a crock of ×××× . Just another excuse to get more cash, as we have seen with mw2 on the pc. Tell me where i can download games for my ps3 and get a burner and blueray discs. Piracy isnt worth it on the ps3, its cheaper to buy the game.

lol or it couldnt be the fact that you cant pirate on the ps3 haha.

Worst thing it'll do is reduce the price of second hand games.

In reference to the car analogy being used, I don't think many garages make a 75/100% (or more) mark up on their second hand cars, and that for me is the main problem for me with second games on the high-street. The inflation in price from trade-in to resale is huge.

Worst thing it'll do is reduce the price of second hand games.

If it does that, then maybe I'd consider buying a secondhand game from the high-street. As I said earlier, right now, when a new game comes out, you usually find that the traded in ones on sale are only about a fiver or so off the price of the retail copy.

How does it effect pirates? This means that they can now download the game for free and then pay $10 for multiplayer access. If that is true then I can only see piracy increase in volume. $10 per new game and you can play onilne?, wow that is a great deal!

What the hell? At the minute they can do it for $0

Buy less games then. Sorry, I fail to see a problem myself. Might be from my days as a PC gamer, but I don't see the problem. You can still sell your games, it's just that they'll have limited functionality, and therefore a lower value.

Bring on digital downloads.

If he buys less games then the industry gets less money. That is the problem.

So it can be damaging to them.

Another way would be to offer the game to download for life on your format for say £20-30 that would be tempting to a few people and give them a lot more profit. But its always half arsed ideas they want to impose, we are in the digital age and they are pussy footing about.

Piracy is a lot of rubbish, I mean the PS3 suffers from zero piracy and they are imposing it on the PS3
