New tyres, can anyone recommend some good ones? 195/55 R15 (H)

I'm not staying that they are a crap tyre because they aren't. They are actually very good for the Ditchfinder like price, but they certainly aren't in the same league as F1s.

I went from T1-Rs all round to F1s, and whilst the slightly stiffer side walls were very welcome, I really don't think there is a very big difference in terms of ultimate grip. The F1s seem to hang on a bit longer in the wet, but dry grip is very similar. I only bought the F1s as the local tyre place are completely ripping people off with Toyos, and the F1's were about £5 more and I needed tyres quickly so couldn't order online.

Speedo will be out. Larger gap between tyre and arch.

Advantages - stiffer sidewall, cheaper.

Get Kumho KU31.

What about comfort, would that be affected? Because the tyres aren't as high would they be more rubbish at absorbing shocks ?

Also, would 205/50's be cheaper/similarly priced, it's the second ''standard size'' tyre for the 15'' alloys I have I think ( it's in the list of standard sized tyres in my manual, or is that for different 15 inch alloys ?).

Bah garage can't get the Hankooks I wanted in time for when I need them fitting next week so looks like it's PE2s all round again.

Right, I'm finally about to buy a new set of tyres ( Holiday in 2 weeks so have to drive a longer distance), having looked around for the prices, the choice is one of these ( in my price range), which one of these would you guys go for, I'll buy my normal size, 195/55, not the size smaller :
Kumho Ecsta SPT KU31
Toyo PROXES 4
Hankook Ventus Prime K105
Goodyear EAGLE NCT 5
Dunlop SP SPORT 01 A
Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response
Nokian i3
Nokian H

These are all in a reasonable price range, any of these would be fine budget wise.
Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response and Nokian H seem to have a good score on http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-European-Summer-Tyre-Test-Part-2.htm... What do you think, anyone have one of those 2 on their cars ?

btw..

K110 are better than K105, and around the same price

I'm going to try K110 next after using KU31 (pleased with them) when I next replace my tyres

I recently got a pair of Yokohama C Drive2 to replace the old tyres on the front of my car in 195/55/R15 which seem to be doing well, not been able to test them in the wet yet as it's been fairly dry.

My dad has Dunlop SP Sports on his car and seems to rate them very good for grip and breaking, will most likely getting a pair to replace the rears on my car next month, though they do seem to be getting a little hard to get hold of online in that size now

T1Rs are every bit as good as the Eagles but without the fanny tax. I.e the extra money that some people (the fannies) will pay for the brand.

Also 195/55/15 is a fairly common manufacturer size, so it shouldnt be much bother to get.

I would forget going for 50 profiles, too small, speedo will be out, ride will be comprimised etc etc.

If you can get the correct sized proxy T1-R's for £28 a corner, whats the debate?!! Christ, I wish my tyres were that cheap, I'd be over the moon.

i use the t1-r on my 205. 195/50/15. £160 fitted for 4 tyres. they are a very good tyre, although not as good as the f1 in the wet

I used to love having 195/50/15 tyres on my ZetecS & 205 GTi, so much choice of tyres for not a huge amount of cash. I'll also give a nod towards T1-R, decent & predictable dry/wet grip, wear rates always fairly good, bit squeely mind.

I couldn't find T1R's for 28 per corner here, I have bought these in the end:
Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response 195/55 R15 85H EUR 83,40 2 EUR 166,80
Totaal 2 EUR 166,80

These will go on the rear, when my fronts wear a bit I will see what I'll buy for my front.
