Right, for the past couple of days I have really been longing to off load my Corsa that I have had and loved since 2004 (family motor, mums old run about).

So, Im am looking to replace it with something of a budget of 10k. This is where Im stuck, and can't make up my mind.

Where will the 10k come from....

  • I have savings that are in excess of 10k but I would rather not eat into.
  • I could get a personal unsecured loan of 10k
  • I have a 'system' going that is currently making about £200 per month from a couple of betting establishments
  • My job is 'stable' and I am living very comfortably

Am I being stupid to even think about taking a loan out to reach my goal more quickly?

More info on the replacement, it would be something A3/Golf/Leon/1 Series/Astra/Focus/Mazda3 size. Well this is what I am currently thinking of anyway, though I am still open minded on this.

Arghhh, I am just fed up with the old gal.

Mazda 3 mps?

Focus ST?

Loads in that price range :)

What do you need it for?

edit - O what is your system (mail in trust am interested)

If you've got the money just buy the car with it and be done with it.

Even mentioning some random 'betting' system in a car purchase thread = fail

Come on then son, lets hear about your betting system as thats what your really here for...!

Or should we mildly entertain that this is a genuine motors question... in which case...

Spend your savings - unless you can find a mega mega muchos cheap bank-loan and buy the A3/Golf/Leon/1 Series/Astra/Focus/Mazda3.

lol, err, the betting scheme is ran by my mate who is most likely money laundering, but his explanation is that it is an automated match betting programme. He wrote it and it currently whirls away during the day betting on the horses. He funded all the cash to start it all up, and he gets 50% of the winnings.

Anyway, this is actually a genuine question. Splitting the loan with the savings is an idea. Heck, I might not even need the loan then as a 0% on purchases for the first 12 months credit card (if the limit allows it), followed by a bit of 'tarting' as described on MoneySavingExpert. Thats an idea.

Oh I see, in which case - yes - get your mate to stuff your money into a laundrette, hot wash 30 mins - bobs your uncle you might end up with the Astra.

Be right back - Terry Tibbs is at the door...

a) Good luck with a £10k limit on a new credit application on a 0% deal
b) Good luck with the dealers credit card surcharge

Take out finance on a Corsa Comfort.

Why is this guy getting so much abuse, he is asking for advice on a car. Not on his credit status. Can Motors ever stick to the subject?

He brought it up, notice the emphasis on where the money comes from in the OP.

Yes, but there is also no recommendation on cars. Which is kind of the main point, just seems to happen too much in Motors.

Such an unfriendly bunch at times.

Personally, I would take your monthly take home wage, times that by the number of months it would likely take you to find similar employment should the worst happen and then take that off your total savings.

Put that aside and then spend the remainder of your savings on the car, topped up with a loan as nessesary (but not exceeding 50/50 savings to loan).

And seriously guys, this is a sensible OP post, no need to go OT.
