May as well buy a 5870
Well it won't be that much, you can get a 470 for <£270 now. Even at £220 you'd be mental to buy one over a 5850.
But there's just so many fanboys moaning about past experiences with ATI drivers who'll buy these.
This is meant to be an HD5830 competitor though no?

NVidia have lost the plot.
No graphics card is a good choice if it is priced above the competition.
NVidia are pricing their cards classes above the ATI equivalent!
Buy a 5850/5870 tbh.

5830s are coming down to like £150 Now Even less in places.
For these Nvidia cards to be worth buying they would have to be around the £180 mark eventhen.. lol

Nvidia need to lower costs, they need to lower prices or the market share they have built will evaporate...
There is still the misconception that they can charge what they like in Europe, ATI are more sensible with prices and have the product to back those prices.

It is but no good if you price it higher than a 5850 as that is what people will compare it to.

We first need to see where it comes in, in comparison to the 5830, which is a pretty big step down from a 5850, but as you say if its similar to 5830 performance but costs the same/more than a 5850, its a terrible buy. The 470gtx would be a better buy with larger bus, 2 shader clusters more, and more everything basically.
I'm wondering if the 460gtx is just a step too far in terms of too many shaders, bus, rops and TMU's.
If the 5770 can get even remotely close to the 460gtx in any games, the 460gtx will be a truly massive failure. Seeing as how close the 5770 can get to the 5830 in a few games, its a real possibility. You don't want a £120 card coming anywhere near a £200-250 card in performance in a single game at all.

Or they want to run Abobe Mercury Playback Engine on the cheap which the ATi cards can't. Simples really.

I would consider it a competitor to the 5830 and as with most NV stuff, has a premium attached. Depends how much value you put in having PhysX and CUDA support I suppose. It needs to be no more than 200 quid though really to be in the 'ball park'.
