Nice. Mate and his missus are heading up and staying the weekend, I'm hoping to get me and the wife booked up for the Sat/Sun as well. Never been before, sounds like a great weekend though. Hotels are all full, only B&B's in outlying areas from the town that are available now. Should have booked up earlier.......DOH!! :)

Hey Guys,

I'm restoring an old classic bicycle and just wanted to ask if anyone knows where I might be able to find one of these types of stand?

I've tried ebay etc but haven't had any luck as yet (been looking for ages) so if anyone has any ideas, or knows of anywhere that sell classic parts, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know.

P.S,

If by chance anyone has one floating around please let me know :)

The problem with my deraileur is that one of its 'joints' had become seized. I want to know the best way to keep it operational! So I guess standard lubricant like WD40 is fine.

They're bearings (I'm pretty sure!) Why should you avoid WD40 for those?

What about something like that? Says it's suitable for suspension.

On the joints of the rear mech i put GT85 on them, as it has a small amount of lube in it, where as WD doesnt do much in the long run.
As KnightStalker said - WD40 will do more or less diddly squat.
Get some GT85 (Red & Black Spray Can) and use that. Same price as the Teflon grease and will do your chain, and all derailleur pivots etc. Will last a while too.
(Your LBS will have this)

I've found the Weldtite Teflon Grease to be quiet poor for anything apart from semi-sealed cup & cone bearings (which I had on my old Shimano M475 hubs) but still no substitute for good car grease ;)#

Hey guys, im in need of some new Bars, im still using the stock ones that came on my 08 Commencal CombiDisc, 25.4 clamp, roughly 1" inch rise on them, i want to get some higher rise bars to make it more comfortable, stem is as high as it goes and my lower back still hurts, so in theory higher rise bars would stop that. So whats good basically?

Shimano workshop grease is what your LBS is likely to use:

WD40 and such like will drive out grease making bearings wear much faster. FYI Lithium based grease will atract dirt so don't use them on external parts.

Also, I keep refering to WD40 in the same context as GT85. Similar but different :o

It could be your saddle position or you could maybe do with a shorter stem.

If you have 1" rise already that is pretty big I thought riser bars are generally around 19mm. (but don't quote me on that)

See here:
http://www.sheldonbrown.com/pain.html#back
Some back-pain sufferers modify their bicycles with extra-high handlebars so that they can sit bolt upright, with their spines straight. This is actually counterproductive in most cases, because a straight spine has no way to "give" when the bike hits bumps. Road irregularities will jam the vertebrae together, often aggravating existing back problems. The bolt-upright posture is comfortable if you're sitting stationary on the bike, but is not suitable for riding much faster than a brisk walk. Riders who for some reason require such a position should use some form of suspension...a sprung saddle at the very least.

As mentioned above, I'd try moving your saddle or a different stem.

Im not sure how to measure the rise, so i put the tape measure at the bottom of the edge of the bar near the steam, and sort of looked across. Saddle has been changed countless times no difference, stem ive got on there now is a 60mm, i went from 100 - 90 - 80 and then 60 which is perfect, just the bars dont have enough rise for me it seems, also they are not wide enough for me so thats another reason.

Ok just checking CRC and these stood out to me, Azonic Bars the 1.5" is roughly slightly bigger and not too much and nice and wide for my stance, would probably help

Ive done that route, they came up with the bigger rise suggestion and also the width, just that ive been waiting almost 3 weeks for them to get me some bars to try, and they have failed.

Ok with the rise measured from the centre of the bar its just under an inch, i reckon the extra half cant do any harm and with the width being bigger it may just help

Type of pad and braking performance never came into the equation. They were bought soley on the fact that he doesn't have that colour on his bike already!

Thought I would post a pic of my bike :)

Giant XTC 4

The only upgrade I have done so far are the Tora 318 Solo Air forks. They replaced the Dart 3's that were on there. The rest is standard.

Any recommendations for a decent set of pedals for trail riding? Pretty fast, lots of drop off's and jumps
