Do any of you work at the weekend (including bank holidays) for no pay increase?

Hey people,

Just a question if anyone works at weekends for no additional pay increase but all you get in return is days in lieu?

Have been wondering what anyone else would do and if they actually do work at these times?

Cheers

Mikoyan

edit: I do weekday work 9-5:30 mon-fri so weekends should be weekends imo! :/

I use to work in retail and never got increased pay or leiu time for bank holidays/sundays. The job was obviously **** anyway and it did actually start off at time + 1/2 but that got cut when new top level management came in.

Work in IT its to do a server migration as its more convenient to the client..lol but its not for me I have things planned..

I did a swing migration in our internal network and now im expected to do them all doh! ><

If we work a saturday we get time+44% and on a sunday we get time+90(ish)%. Sometimes we're on standby on a weekend and get a set amount unless we're called in, then it's time+% depending what day it is.

Bank holiday we get time+90% plus a day in lieu - just thought it worth adding that.

There's no way i'd EVER work a weekend shift without pay.

So get another job that you like?

I have been trying since before xmas.

Sending my cv to everyone and i mean everyone. Im signed up to agencies, recruitment agencies, local job centre and i take my cv around to factory's but still haven't been able to get out of this hell hole i call a job.

I get time in lieu, or for Xmas Day/New Years Day, 2x hourly rate.

Last place I worked was win - 2x rate on BH, 3x Good Friday and Easter Monday :D

Note to self - read title.

No, I don't get any extra. In fact, we have to sign a contract saying we'll work weekends as required, for no extra, or it's bye-bye.

Weekend work for me: saturday = 1.5x rate for first 4 hrs then 2x, sunday is 2x for every hour, bank hols are 2x for every hour + day in lieu

I wouldn't even consider working for nothing on a w/e unless my job security absolutley depended on it

Have you had someone look at your cv. Do you tailor it to where you work. Removing qualifications and experience for bottom rung jobs.
when you say signed up with agencies, have you gone in person, dressed up smart.
Have you been flexible and enthusiastic about getting any job. Got warehouse, slaughter house and data entry jobs within 72hours, in the past.

Sadly it's not the case for all agencies, I signed up to all the agencies around here when I was jobless and I didn't hear from one until the end of March, which was nearly 4 months after I signed up with them. Even after that they messed me around, made me buy my own safety boots (even though they're supposed to provide them) and after paying petrol to get there, it left me out of pocket as they told me not to bother going back in after a day's work even though I'd busted my backside getting loads done! :(

Ye i've paid a professional to look over my CV. they corrected the layout and added a few extra sentences which was good. For each job ive applied for, i have researched the company and written a cover letter stating why i would like to work for them etc etc. Signed up to my local agencie by going in yes and also the jobcentre, i have a few agencies online which i use aswell.

I will take any job going, if it means i can get out of retail work. I really am unhappy.

What do you expect if you don't keep in contact. Actually phone up every 2-3 days and say you are still looking and if they have anything. Actually meeting agencies face to face, who are they going to give a job to. Someone who applies online, or someone who takes the time, to go in and talk about what the agency has and what they can do. Then phones every few days for updates. Also a lot of online agency will just use your name for book numbers.

Jobs 99% of the time, do not come to you. You have to search them out.
