not that bad???

that's pretty special for a 1.6 astra fully loaded up!!

I'd disagree. Stop/start driving it what really canes your fuel usage, if you wind it up to 2500RPM and sit there in 5th gear, steady speed all day you usually get some pretty good MPG figures.

Our old Skoda had a "real time" MPG display, so you'd see it drop into the low 10's when accelerating hard, whereas motorway cruising would get ~55/60.

If you took it out of gear down a hill you could get it up to 220 :p

Well that's your opinion. And your "down a hill =220" just shows the flaws of the current mpg computer. Out of interest what Skoda was it?

5 people @ say 70kg each = 350kg plus all their luggage. Let's say and additional 400kg on a car that weighs around 1200kg that's an increase of 1/3.

The book mpg on this car is 42mpg. So to get it with an extra 1/3 in weight is pretty good imo especially with it's epic amount of power :S

I disagree with your disagreement, this is hardly representative of day to day driving is it? What kind of roads would you be doing ~50mph all day on?

I would say 42mpg is very good for the car and the conditions it was driven under.

do these kinda people just annoy you?

WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR GOD DAMN MPG!!

What are you going to save on your 2 hour journey with something more eco? £5?

Christ since the economic downturn people are obssed with MPG and need to look at the bigger picture
