Uni Room sink clogged - HELP!

Get yourself a "Zip-it" drain cleaner tool. They work great.

unfortunately, because it's a bottle-trap and not a traditional u-bend, that won't work. also, i don't even want to SEE the crap that comes out of there - i'd much rather chemically incinerate it.

They sell caustic soda in boots, might be closer than b&q for you.

Can't you use a knife to cut the hair trapped around the trap? Should fall out nicely then if you've taken the whole thing apart.

i don't think people are understanding me...

imagine, 20 years of accumulation of hair and skin and assorted other bits of bodily fallings, fermenting and accumulating and rotting...

imagine that smell, but a BILLION times worse. that is the smell that emanates from this thing when i pop it open. i could hardly stand to scrape at it with a fork from arms reach, let alone surgically excising the remaining material.

i'm going to chemically incinerate it and i will feel good doing so. thanks for the Tip about boots though - thats much more convenient!

You can get this from supermarkets. As it's a bathroom one it's specifically designed to dissolve hair/soap etc. I think it's about £3-£4 a bottle.

I always found the one-shot acid drain unblocking products to be far superior to caustic soda. The last one I bought from B&Q is here.

Expensive (under £10 tho), yes. But it succeeded in style where several attempts with caustic failed, after MUCH flushing with water I hasten to add. Never mix acids and alkalis. :p

Have you done it yet??

no, i'm under house-arrest on the orders of my group project leader until i've completed my assigned tasks (Forensic reconstruction of the timeline of events over a three year period on a windows 2003 server that had been compromised by unknown assailants). i'll buy what i can when i'm in town tomorrow

video+youtube or it didn't happen :D

Sounds like the only thing that could be more disgusting than sebacious cysts being burst

sorry - the opportunity has passed, you'd have to pay me at least £250 to open that god forsaken thing again.

the remainder of the removal process will be mostly chemical, and less... poking and prodding.
