Darren Brown Last Night

Watched it last night, oh my! If spirits/dead people really could talk to us, why would they choose this bozo? Can I implore people to check out his website:

The bit that made me laugh was when the Joe guy was doing the aura reading.

Ah..you have a red aura around you, that means that you are involved in a legal process which involves a car.

What????

Oh come on !! I could possibly believe that an aura might reflect an emotion or character trait. Like perhaps that you would have a red or dark coloured aura if you were angry or a light aura if you were happy etc....

That I could maybe believe...but not that a particular colour aura indicates that you are involved in legal action concerning a vehicle :rolleyes:

Exactly what I was going to say!

Very good show though...showed the fraud for exactly what he was. Sadly, people will beleive whatever they want to beleive. They should be having counselling rather than throwing money at a 'psychic'.
 
I saw all but the first 15 minutes of this and I must say that if anyone believes that Joe Power guy even without all of the explanations of cold reading and how he cheats information out of punters...you need your head examined.

The sad thing is, his home looked pretty decent he drove some new 4x4 car and I'm sure Derren mentioned at one point that the show Joe did for the live audience was around £2000 in ticket sales. I'm in the wrong business.

Its strange how much he actually believed he was right/genuine. All the wierd things he says and knowing deep down (although he'd NEVER admit) that he is a complete bs'er and scammer preying on the emotionally vulnerable. Quite unbelievable really, poor excuse for a human being.
 
I was shouting at the telly for most of it, mainly due to their approach of trying not to offend anyone...

Well, he's not a genuine medium. If he says he is he's either lying, or a mental.
 
This thread has really cheered me up.
Mainly because:

We've just watched a program where an apparent "real medium" is shown to be nothing of the sort.
In his group interaction he uses cold reading.
In his first "good" reading it turns out the guys sister lives next door to the person he is reading.
Then there was his final "bad reading" which he blames on Derren.

So we have an hour long program that basically tells us what Derren has been telling us for years - that all Mediums do is either cheat or cold read.

Then, we get at least two people who think that the guy on the show was a fake but there are real mediums out there, people who can genuinly "talk to the dead".
Only on OcUK!
 
I love the, "Are you a fake?" part, as Derren could employ his lie detection skills to see if he was telling the truth or not. :p

Well, I'm sorry but you are related to someone who is seriously deluded or (much more likely) a complete fraud who is happy to exploit bereaved people for money. Why don't you ask if your relative is happy to take part in a scientific test to prove how genuine they are?

If they can actually contact the dead don't you think they should be doing something more with it than telling people that their mum was "one of 5" etc.
 
It has always struck me that if they really could communicate with the dead, surely the dead would be a bit more helpful and specific?

'Yeah i'm mike smith, i'd like to talk to joanna smith in your audience'

Why would they seemingly all engage in this cryptic rubbish?

It just doesn't make any sense, even if you were to assume they could talk to the dead. After all, once they've got far enough they have specific enough 'your gran wishes you well with your new marriage' messages :p

There is $1 million dollars awaiting your relative or any other person claiming to be a medium. All they have to do is prove under test conditions that they can indeed contact the dead.

Starts off with a reading for a mother called Wander (I think). Joe claims he has never met the woman before and she confirms - he gets hit after hit and results in a successful reading.

NB - Joe asked to go to the toilet before he started

Later on Joe did some readings with some of the cast of Hollyoaks, one of them he wasn't doing very well until his guessing game got something right about his dead grandmother. Derren did his own reading but clearly stated he was not in contact with the dead and that many aspects of Joe's readings follow the same principle as Derren's during his shows. Anyway, Derren does really well and it is clear he can mimic Joe without the whole 'dead people' vibe. Joe is clearly annoyed and quickly jumps in asking the actress questions such as...."do you have a mini/have you driven a mini?". The actress says yes and he gets a couple more hits following the mini question.

NB - Derren's driver later reveals as he was dropping off Joe in the car park, the actress pulled up right next to them driving her blue mini (later on when confronted, Joe says he didn't see it)

Next Derren attends one of Joe's shows (sell-out crowd of 250+ people). He watches the show, looking a little uncomfortable. Derren and an expert on cold reading watch the show on video and go through the various steps of cold reading to see if Joe is cold reading or really talking to the dead. The expert is quite reserved in stating Joe is full of crap but they manage to find some really blatant cold reading techniques in Joe's show.

Derren asks Joe to do a test to prove he is for real, by reading people without seeing or hearing them. Joe accepts this initially but later states he can only make a connection to the dead spirits and person in front of him by hearing their voice. So they compromise; Derren setups up another person for Joe to read but makes sure there is no way Joe has had any previous contact with the woman. Derren briefly meets her before for our benefit; she wants to believe the 'contacting the dead', she has lost a sister (I think).

Joe arrives and asks Derren has he met her before, Derren says he has but just briefly. Once again, Joe asks to go to the toilet before he starts. He proceeds to do his stuff, getting few points right and always coming back to the correct aspects if he gets it wrong. Eventually, Joe is starting to falter and he asks her had she met Derren before. She got a little confused and thought he meant before that day (assume when they met was on the same day) and says no but realises and says yes. At this point Joe says her meeting Derren voids it and gets angry. He states Derren said he hadn't met her before - even though Derren said he had before they went in.

They meet one more time and Derren comes out with it; are you a fake? Joe comes out with some **** and bull and they part their ways. At the end (a few weeks later), Derren discovers that the woman he first met (the one Joe said he had never met before or knew anything about her) happens to be his sisters neighbour. Joe claims this is a complete coincidence.

In summation - Joe is a complete fraud.
 
Houdini & James Randi spent a lot of time proving how people are gullible to Mediums.
Anybody who thinks we can talk to the dead need their head examining.
 
how do you explain mediums contacting the dead to physically move objects around a room? you cant scientifically prove it.

ive been in a room with objets flying around the place from a medium contacting the dead?

im not getting into this, like i said if you havent seen it then you wont believe.

i dunno why people go to theese mediums, i dont believe it but a lot of people do and can relate so much with only specific to them answers.
