PC Format hatchet job

good message i think, just what they needed. i hope that they atleast revise the review or print a notice about it in the next issue explaining more about what PSU used and revise the score accordingly

The pre overclocked bundles are great, but I still wouldnt recommend one to lets say... my brother for example, who has absolutely no computer sense whatsoever. But they are a great step into overclocking with the majority of the risk removed :) They are also covered by warrenty I believe, so if after a month the system loses stability at the OcUK supplied settings you even have a port of call for support. These bundles should be scoring 80-90% in reviews imho, with a note that they are intended for people with medium levels of computer experience rather than complete novices.

For all we know they paired the bundle with a power hungry GPU and an undersized PSU :), And of course PSU rail stability, and power regulation/filtering etc will have a massive impact on how well the system performs at its overclocked speed.

For some reason I haven't had a message from OCUK yet thanking me for writing to the nasty brutes at PCFormat and offering me a free 5870.

I must be in my spam folder.....

:)

I'm another subscriber to Custom PC. When it comes to hardware, there really is nothing else like it on the magazine shelves. They let you know exactly what they are testing, and give you plenty of facts and figures.

I got my PC Format in the post today and your letter made it in the mag.

There response is even more rubbish saying they got frustrated trying to get it to work. They go on to say if you need a decent PSU it should be bundled with the bundle

They say they use a 1200w Ikonik Vulcan. Never heard of that brand myself :p

Just arrived home to find a copy. Nice to see my name in print again (last time was in PCW and on a side note I was very sad to hear about Guy Kewney passing away this week)

Agreed, the response sucked.

Aren't PC mags from the olden days (before broadband)? Why in this day and age someone would make a trip to a newsagent and hand over £6 for a mag full of out dated news and bias reviews is beyond me!

Too true, a lot of the mags are out of date before they're printed. Long live the internet! To whoever said to read on the train, that's what smart phones are for:D

Didnt know anyone gets magazines now. Last time i checked a magazine was £5.99 and that was 2 or 3 years ago. I thought with broadband its much easier to browse sites and download the lastest demos for free. No need to pay £6 or £7

I still get Edge and Games Tm delivered more as something to read on the jon than anythink else :P

Used to buy custom PC untill i noticed some of there incredibly bad overclocking advice, i think at one stage they were using 1.48Vcore on air to get a 920 DO to 4GHz.
Another time they tested fans by blowing up a big plastic bag...to be honest i dont bother with them or Bit Tech anymore.

and have a fantastic reputation for customer service (just check out their forums).

LOL, that's a great joke, it's their forums, of course it'll be full of glowing feedback, anything negative gets deleted. If you want a true look into OcUK's reputation use google.
