Hi All,

Just wondering how many of you gamble and/or also In-Play betters?

I like to bet on the Over/Under Markets throughout the Football season but have never been taken up by In-Play betting.

I have thought about trying some In-Play betting during the World Cup; laptop on while watching the TV etc...What else do you think I could do to help? :p

P.S I don't bet a lot, I don't want to encourage gambling to those who don't understand it or care. If you don't agree with gambling please move along and don't start a war in this Thread, Thank You.

I used to do this on Betfair with tennis matches. Back in 2002/03 before tennis betting was popular some of the markets were inefficient and overreacted to a break of serve in some matches on clay. They also used to place too much emphasis on the players' ranking to define the odds. People are a bit more clued up these days though since it's become more popular so I no longer have an edge.

As football is the most popular sport to bet on, the markets are generally very accurate and so it's difficult to make money on.

edit: if you're just doing it for fun during the world cup then why not. :) Have a look at laying teams who are 1 goal up with a few minutes to go. You can lay at very low odds late in the game and it makes injury time goals more exciting if they come in.

It's very lucrative if you can read games well and lay all participants. You also need to follow/gamble with Asian books as these have the lowest margins and are the benchmark by which the rest of the world sets its market against. They are prone to go short too quickly though as the vast majority of the Chinese square market will always punt the + and the under.

dont know how you can gamble its a big risk

Quite an ambiguous and fairly meaningless statement tbh...

Gambling is just trying to profit by taking on risk, whether you're gambling on stocks or on horses.

In fact almost everyone 'gambles' to some extent simply by say having a pension you're indirectly exposed to bond prices and/or stock market fluctuations. By chosing to buy a house with a large mortgage vs renting over a period of time you're effectively taking a view/taking a gamble on interest rates over that period....
