GTX 480 and strange resolution issues

Hi all,

I am trying to get a GTX 480 working on my system but for some reason it won't allow 1920 x 1200 @ 60hz, it will only allow 59Hz

The wierd thing is the screen is saying it's @ 60Hz on desktop (it's a HP LP2475w) but in the Nvidia Control Panel it says its at 59Hz, when i change it to 60Hz it just jumps back to 59Hz again!!

Also another strange thing is that in BF2 I can only have 1920 x 1200 @ 59Hz, I know this screen supports that refresh rate as I have just had my HD5970 in it and it plays fine @60Hz

Am I missing anything silly?

Yeah im on 7, I tried that but for some reason it doesn't stick it just goes back to 59Hz again, wierd.

Also another strange thing i have noticed is that when I add BF2 BC to the list of games to manage profiles, it disappears next time I go into the control panel again. Any Ideas?

I always just assumed the 59 was wrong and it was really 60.
*edit* It is 60 for me with new drivers, was always 59 before.

Did any of you notice that programs don't add to the profiles in 3d settings?

When it shows 59 it is actually 59.9768 or something stupid but shows as 59 cos it isnt quite 60.

My 24inch monitor has always had a refresh rate of 59 its not really a card issue.

i have this issue a fix for you:

Open up Nvdia control panel

Change resolution

Add resolution

Create Custom resolution

select your display size and change refresh rate to 60HZ

Click on timing

Click on manual

Bottom of screen change refresh rate to 60.001

Test

Save

Your resolution should now be 60hz

Turning Vsync off will not alter the refresh rate from 59 to 60hz

Vsync is purely for games and has nothing to do with the refresh rate being stuck at 59 hz in windows.

The 59hz problem is common with Windows 7.

Both my friend and I run windows 7 on a Plasma screen and LCD TV, I have a GTX 280 he has a GTX 270. We have both had the same problem with latest drivers forcing 59Hz when you click apply, alternatively if it is set to 60hz it will change to 16bit colour mode. If you change back to 32bit colour it then goes to 59Hz!

This never used to happen so I think it is the recent drivers / windows update that is causing it. For all we know 59Hz is what we should actually be running (23Hz works better for 24Hz films for some reason) on our HDTVs as they do often have a fudge factor regarding their native support.

The custom resolution is the best option I think for 60Hz (i run a 1280x720 60hz res for TV clips and 1920x1080 60hz res for gaming and general use.) Annoyingly the custom res section of the drop down list of resolutions seems to vanish, so you have to click another res then cancel to make it reappear.

Interestingly using the windows change resolution screen from right clicking on desktop and "change resolution" from the drop down menu doesn't seem to have the 59hz problem so maybe use that instead

No problems here, my refresh rate sets quite nicely to 120Hz
