..is so great.

Today, guys and gyals, after owning my 306 DTurbo for nearly a year and a half, I finally fixed the drivers window which hadn't been working since I bought it. And all it took was a bit of wire, and 20minutes of my time. It's feel great to have a working window :D lol.

So OCUK'ers what have you accomplished on your car which gives you that feeling?

on my Vectra VXR it was changing the brake pads

First car i did it on and was chuffed to punch i managed it all by myself.

Changing the suspension (Fiesta ST) to Bilstein dampers and H&R springs. First proper job I've ever attempted, it took a long time and I needed a lot of help from a mate, but nice to have done it myself and think of the moneys saved :)

First thing I ever properly fixed was when I bought my DTurbo actualy :p

The interior fan wouldn't work. The display and everything else for the fans refused to light up, I bought a second hand motor from the scrapyard (only local) and it still wouldn't work, so I pulled the fusebox open and found a melted green relay. Replaced and its worked ever since :D

It took me 6 months to work out how to reset the tyre pressure warning light on my M3. Was chuffed after I figured out how to fix that.

Changing the head gasket on my mums punto today. What should have been a 2 day job turned into a 3 day job 'cos it was a complete pain in the arse to get the timing done. Was getting a proper rage on having the take the damn engine mount on and off the get to the cambelt tensioner every time. Must have done ot 5-6 times before I finally cracked it.

Getting my B16 DOHC VTEC engine into my Rover Coupe for a track day at Castle Coombe the next day, where fortunately it worked fine.

Or could have been turboing the same engine setup, again the night before a trackday. Met a friend (Mark Eley, RIP) at McDonalds at 10pm the night before to throw the big injectors in and run it up and down the M11 with a wideband checking the fuelling.

Again no issues, just highlighted the next step as an LSD!

some things

Epic car man does epic car things :(

:D

For me it was fixing the screwy remote locking on my sunny sr. One day it just started opening and closing itself. Something was jammed in teh locking mechanism so ripped everything out of the door and got to the mechanim. Very complicated and completely enclosed and what looked liked jammed. Gave it some WD40 and a wiggle, stuck it back in and all was good again :D

Just been speccing up a full suspension overhaul for my DC2. Expensive stuff if chickening out and buying mainly new aftermarket arms with the bushes already in, but circa £600 to get adjustable front+rear camber and toe + new arms inc bushes front and rear. Then selling on the old OEM arms should recupe some monies, or I might just cut down on new arms and try get some bushes rammed into the old arms instead. Still going to be circa £1k+ once paired up with some nice MeisterR coilovers, some new bolts/nuts (condition dependent) and full geo setup.

Stupid stupid old cars, wish I had a KERS car like you Jonny :)

I designed that one aswell, well got all the hybrid component owners kit into a MY10 Range Rover sport fresh off the production line for them :p

Its great at the moment as I dont care, just drive it, even if the thing does need a bit of a suspension refresh at 150k. Certainly adds an element of driving you dont find in fast cars as you need to keep momentum, then it just gets parked up when Im home at thats in for the next day with my fuel expenses claim giving me free fuel.

Hmmm career change time for me :D

Do you work for Jag/land rover and up Birmingham way?

Im am contracting design engineer, or 'director of an engineering consultancy' :P, so I did for 15months or so at Land Rover in Gaydon, Warks, cash hit a brick wall there so loads of us went in a big cost reduction, spent 10 months at Rolls Royce Submarines, Derby(now thats a hybrid!). I have just started back at Whitley (south Cov) working on XF and XJ product development in the offices above Ian Callum and his design studio. Today I was messing about with a black XJ with the wings loose at the bottom, holes drilled in the bodywork all over and big red wheels :D

Good times at JLR thats for sure.

Anyway no more digression :o
