**Alan Wake Review*****

I'm suprised there hasn't been very many people commenting on this games release. It's one of the most enjoyable single player games i've played for ages. You can tell it's made by the Max Payne crew as the game oozes quality. It brings back good memories of when i was playing Max Payne 1 and 2 for the first time. I'm probably going to have it finished tomorrow morning as i keep trying to break up my play time but i keep going back for more.

I hope the game gets recieved well because these quality games a few and far between nowadays.

Very much so indeed I couldn't put it any better than that :)

The LE is awesome, very happy with the quality of it all.

Something I just found about the DLC, expalins why it won't work. lol

Anyone who buys Alan Wake tomorrow will find inside a token card for the first piece of DLC for the game. However the DLC isn’t avaiable yet, so trying to redeem the code will get you an invalid message.

So Gamedot have found out that the first piece of DLC will be arriving July 28th 2010 as a representative of Microsoft’s Xbox department stated, “The Alan Wake Add-on content will be available July 28, 2010. Please hold on to your token card to redeem the content at that time.”

We already knew that the first batch of Alan Wake DLC would be free to anyone who picks up the game but we now know it’ll arrive on July 28 and that it won’t tell a brand new story.

Alan Wake 2 is already written and Hakkinen confirmed that the first instalment of Alan Wake will offer up a satisfying ending: “Season one – just to be clear – is a full package and you’ll unravel the mystery and reach all your goals.”

All this talk of the Alan Wake DLC providing a “different perspective” reminds us the Heavy Rain DLC which puts you in the shoes of the Origami Killer.

Remedy’s Oskari Hakkinen told CVG that the Alan Wake DLC will “give you a different perspective on the things that you’ve done in season one and then set you up for the possible things you’re going to do in season two.”

This to our knowledge is the first instance of a game having a free redeem code inside for DLC… but it doesn’t exsist yet. So consider this a PSA from us here at Gamedot if you get Alan Wake and wonder why the code isn’t working – now you know. For those on the fence however you can hopefully expect our full review by this time next week.

Oh, oh. It's bloomin' fantastic. Really like it so far. The 'episodic' format works really well and some of the music (known tracks) work fantastically. Really create a good atmosphere.

Will be honest, it starts off a little ropey (really just the 'get to know the controls' bit) but really gets going. Quite scary on your own in the dark - some of the sounds and effects are pretty unsettling.

Finally!..something original in style, story, setting and characters. Look forward to getting through it.

Edit; just realised that one of the extra discs is the soundtrack. Awesome.

Definitely recommend it if you like a good story/character driven game (although I'm only through episode 2 so far so could still all fall apart!).

Played the first 10mins of it yesterday as I am saving it to properly play through later tonight. I was quite impressed by the game engine that shines of typical Remedy style, lots of detail, yet very Max Payne'ish with regards to character movements.

The loose camera will take some getting used to as it seems all over the place. Lastly, what compete muppet decided to make Run and Dodge utilise the same button?! There I am running to the cabin to rescue my bird and Alan starts spinning around dodging instead! FFFFUUUU.

The game feels like a cross between the classic horror game Nocturne, and Alone in the Dark from the looks of it.

Managed to pre order this for £33 and it came with a copy of Too Human for free aswell!

Not arrived yet though :( There's still time...

Very funny.

I've just looked at some reviews and have now cancelled my preorder, i'll wait until it's a bit cheaper as i've got way too many games on my plate as it is. A 7/10 from Eurogamer has really put me off as i usually agree with their views.

I am taking the view that single player games ain't worth the £35 markup. I'm gonna wait till it's sub £20.

I played 2 episodes yesterday, its not as scary as i thought i would be, very good use of sound and set pieces plus some of the visuals when your moving from palce to place look amazing! story seems ok so far i just hope it isnt too short.

Played it for around 30 minutes and like what i have played so far. Getting to grips with the correct use of the flashlight may take a little while, I also ran out of bullets which isn't a good things when getting attacked by axe wielding maniacs :) Needless to say I died and gave up for the night at that point.

Played this for about 7 hrs last night, it just gets better as you play. I recommend putting a decent pair of headphones on for it as I did, the soundscape is so eerie you'll be on edge the whole time. Great gripping story, good gameplay dynamics, and the levels are free enough that you don't feel railroaded, but you'll never get lost. Sadly, I only rented it so am dying to know what happens as it went back today! It starts getting quite difficul around episode 4 so be prepared to crap yourself :p

Btw people, there is a area map of the game at the back of the instruction booklet. Looks like a fairly large landscape for exploration.

comming from a pc gamer whos been given an xbox, i would say its really good so far.
Just completed ep 1 and will play some more tonight after work.

just read a couple of reviews, doesnt seem like its worth full price, maybe I will get it preowned for £15 in a few months, one review in the guardian suggests its too short and isnt worth the full price

There was a time when I was so hyped up about this game but it's had so many delays it's become almost like another "Duke Nukem Forever" so I just lost all interest in it. Maybe I will rent it but I don't feel passionate enough to buy it
