How much oil does your BMW 3.0i (M54) use?

Glad it seems to be the norm then. The fact that the car rarely does a journey over 6 miles probably doesn't help the oil consumption.

Even the current M3 drinks oil. Mine was a litre per 1000miles, but mostly due to the fact that it was a weekend car and got driven hard when I drove it once warmed up!

When i first got the car it was worryingly large amounts (a litre every 450 miles) but this calmed down within ~1500 miles or so, and it now uses a litre every 1250-1750 miles depending on what kind of driving I'm doing. I agree, the more short journeys I do the worse it is, when I'm working from our office (4 miles each way) it goes to perhaps 1250 miles a litre, but when I'm out on site (which I am atm) where the shortest possible journey is 13-14 miles it has really calmed down.

When you buy the oil @ £6 a litre, it's actually not that bad...I've spent ~£160 in oil top ups in 33,000 miles, less than half a penny a mile. Compare that to ~17-18p a mile I've averaged on fuel and it's really a none event

My 530i has never really used much oil at all - the amber light came on when I parked up a few weeks ago about 10,000 miles after it was serviced, so I chucked a litre in and I doubt it'll need topping up again before its next service.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but frankly I'm too embarassed to make a new thread for such a lame question.

My E90 - I can't find where the locking wheel nut is. I've looked around the boot and bonnet and inside the car but can't for the life of me see where it lives, if indeed there is one? I thought maybe it was handed to me but I've definately not got one with my handbooks etc.

Is there some kind of secret location or should I have been handed it by the dealer?

:o :(

Have you checked the toolkit in the boot? That's where mine have always been stored.

Do you have a touring or saloon? I can't remember.

In the e46 saloon/coupe at least, there is a toolkit attached to the back of the boot door.

Saloon - and yeah that's where I looked first of all - in the liner of the bootlid per E46 - but there's jack **** there on the E90.

I just can't believe they will sell you a car with no way of getting the frickin wheels off!

Secret location errmmmm.....located! :D

It/they are in really the most obscure hatch - just as said, cheers Nick.
