Audi A4 2.4 Avant [workhorse]

Looking for a estate car for lugging about purposes [DIY stores,dog etc] and quite like the A4 Avant. As this will be a 3rd car in the house and not have a lot of use i am keeping the budget and expectations quite low, under £2000.

I know i am going to be in 98/99 territory but, thats not a issue for what it will be used for. Anything specific i should look out for?
 
Sorry to not offer advice on an A4, but have you thought about a Mercedes W124?

They're bigger, more reliable and probably cheaper to fix..

Exactly what i have done in the past on more than one occasion. Great cars.

Thats true but, i dont think there would be much i could'nt get in a Avant with the rear seats down [if it came to it that is]. Thinking about it, do they have folding rear seats?
 
My friend used to have this exact model of A4 for lugging around his dogs and random stuff in it. Very comfy and fast enough too.
 
One thing i would like would be an A6 quattro avant. The 4wd would be a godsend on some of the ground i drive on. My old W124 was awful for traction :p

Get an A6 at least :)
