I'm heading out east soon and have the option of stopping in Dubai for 2-3 days.

Has anyone done similar before and make any recommendation of a cheap but flash (hopefully?) hotel and things to do? I imagine the place to be like Las Vegas but on steroids or something like that, is it a cool place to look around/pretend to shop for a few days?

Gonna be hot too I guess, will be there in June!

It's well into the 40's here at the moment. Its going to be pretty toasty by summer :)

There are too many hotels to just list some random ones. Google them and check reviews :)

damn was just about to say don't go kissing anyone but apparently it's ok to do that if dampcat's comment is anything to judge by. The press must have got it wrong ;)

We stayed in a 4* star hotel (can't remember which) but it was pretty damn nice and considered average over there. Plenty to keep you occupied. If you want to do the western thing; lots of shops and sights, great water park etc. And if you want to experience the local culture without all the gloss and labels - you should check out the gold and spice souks. Either way - you will have a great time as long as you can take the heat and noise.

Lie on a beach and go to a shopping centre, that really is about it. Go to Jumeirah beach, it is quite a nice place on the beach with a lot of hotels and restaurants aswell as shops, good place to spend the evening for sure. Wild Wadi is worth a look at aswell. Mall of Emirates and Dubai mall are good places to go. It's good just to walk around and look at people

I didnt for a moment suggest they had. I was merely proceeding all the hilarious jokes that inevitably emerge in every thread about Dubai.

Mall of the emirates, go snowboarding in Dubai mall, spend loads of money, buy lots of stupidly cheap smokes, go to the beach mentioned above and spend £5 on a bottle of water lol, take lots of money lol

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt last year.

Was absolutely stunning, not too far from the airport, and maybe a 15 minute taxi ride to the center and the beaches. Taxis were really cheap over there so don't get too concerned about hoping in a taxi everywhere.

If you can, go to the beach. If you're not staying at the Jumeirah hotel, then you can pay a little bit to use their private beach.

There's also the huge indoor ski at the mall, and the Burj Dubai is open now, so you can go the top i presume.

I didn't really check out the nightlife much, but if you want a fantastic meal, head to the seafood garden, simply stunning food!
