It was discontinued in 2004 and replaced by the 1 Series, of which the Audi A3 is the direct rival.

the e46 and e90 are the same thing - just one is the new 3 series (e90) and one is the previous shape 3 series (e46)

Effectively it goes like this:

Audi BMW
A3 1 series
A4 3 series
A5 3 series coupe
A6 5 series
A8 7 series

and soon

A1 Mini
A7 Bmw grand coupe concept (proper name as yet unknown)

BMW 1 series take on the megane r26r. It would be a lot more expensive, but a lightweight and sorted 1 series would be hella cool imho.

No, the E90 is the 2005-present 3 Series Saloon. It is a direct rival for the Audi A4. The A5 is a large hatchback, a coupe or a convertible. The E90 is none of these things.

2000-2008 Audi A4, A4 Avant and A4 Cabrio. The E46 Compacts rival was the A3.

I'd love to see BMW have an attempt at a genuine supercar.

The M6 is ridiculously quick but I'd love to see something to compete against the likes of the GTR/911 Turbo.
