Hi, ive got 4x2GB ram in, there's 2 different makes, ive put each pair inthe same colour-coded slots. I have set the ram speed to low and i have enabled memory remap.

On bios boot up it sees 8GB, but then when windows goes to load, it doesnt show the logo and just reboots. Ive installed windows xp 64.

When i was installing XP 64, it didnt seem to likfe 8GB, i dont get this?

I really need to get XP 64 working as i doing a final year porject on that OS.

Help!

Would the RAM being two different makes not be a problem? Possible that they are different specs? Try using only one make at a time.

Yes they are two different makes.

i've lowered all the settings. However, it works fine with 2x2GB of one make and 1x2GB of the other, but not 2x2GB and 2x2GB??

MAybe one of the sticks is faulty and/or they are inconpatible with each other.

Its something to do with windows,

When i had 8GB in and i installed, i had memory map enabled, i booted from teh CD and it went through the driver list with the blue screen and then at the last bit (before u press f8 to continue) it just said something like loading windows, for ages.....

"Setup is starting windows......"

Will it boot into Windows with only 4GB of RAM?

If i had the first 3x slots with RAM and the last empty ie with 6 GB, it will boot up into Windows.

If I have the 2nd slot from the CPU free, but slots 1,3 and 4 with RAM- it wont even though its 6GB still.

I'm just running the XP 64 set up again, it gets stuck on the blue screen (after loading drivers and before partition stuff) with:

"Setup is loading windows"

Ok i solved it, looks like the problem was the different RAM, although that doesnt explain why one stick would work but not both!

Anyhow, I bought the other set of kingston hyperx and its all good!
