PS3 pausing anti-piracy notices?

I don't know whether I'm going mad or not but I was watching Band of Brothers in bluray recently and when I started the disc and it came up with the various copyright/piracy notices that you can't skip and take forever to finish I switched over to Sky to watch the news.

After about 10 mins I switched back expecting to be on the menu only to find the copyright notices appeared to have paused waiting for me to watch them? As soon as I had switched back they immediately carried on as normal?

My PS3 is connected to the TV via HDMI, Sky is via SCART - is there some sort of mechanism in the PS3 that detects when it is no longer the active input for the TV, or am I just going mad?

My Xbox360 reboots when i change the channel so there's clearly some sort of feedback to HDMI devices, dunno, could be possible. If it is though i doubt it's specifically pausing anti piracy messages, it might just pause when you switch away whatever you're watching.

Had the same sort of issue with my 360, every time i changed from the HD input to something like sky, or the dvd player, it would either reset the 360, or pause whatever it was doing, think it had something to do with switching between Different HD res like 720P to whatever the sky was set to.

Fixed it by having the 360 set to 1080p or i (Cant remember) and it dosent do it any more.

Have you tried doing it when the actual film is playing not just when the piracy ad's are on?

Might give u a better idea of whats going on.

You're not using a hacked optical breakout box are you?

Mine doesn't!

Nah, it's passing both audio and video through HDMI directly into the TV. It's completely unmodified.

Mine does! :p

[EDIT] It's quite a rare issue but i'm not alone, with some televisions the 360 does all sorts of strange things when the channel is changed etc. Doesn't bother me anyway, i typically like to stay on the same channel when playing games :p

If I'm watching a Blu-Ray and I switch over to Sky it pauses the film for me so I don't miss anything, maybe it's that?
It's probably that then I guess. I know you can't skip the copyright ads but maybe you can pause them?

I'll check tonight whether it pauses during normal playback.

I don't know if you can skip forward a chapter past them, but what I do is just use the fast forward thing, like on the old video tapes. On the PS3 I think it's R2 and L2 but that way the piracy ads are over in less than a minute. :)

Still, a bit annoying that us honest people who buy our movies are forced to sit through these, while the people who are commiting the piracy have absolutely no adverts to sit through whatsoever. :p

It's ridiculous on the BoB bluray, you're sat there for a good 5 minutes while it shows you all the "WARNING" notices in various different languages. As you say if I had just downloaded it in the first place then I would've been watching it much sooner.

I've got those BD's and find that the time is ideal for making a coffee and raiding the biscuit tin.

If only they'd make the screens stay up a bit longer then I could rustle up a pizza as well. :(
