Motherboard Temps

Hi all

of late my motherboard seems to be getting hotter. My system is in my signature, overclocked to 333fsb the cpu is running at 3.0gig which I'm happy with. The cpu idles itself at around 28-30 degrees, going up to late 30s when gaming, but then dropping back down to 33 or so very quickly when a game is turned off, but then creeping back down to idle after that.

Thing is the motherboard idles at around 28 degrees, and after gaming is at 33 degrees, and comes down slower than the cpu, so for a while the motherboard is reporting a hotter temperature than the CPU, which just dont look right to me :(

I have voltage set on auto in the bios, and vcore is running at about 1.41v, is this the cause? Is it anything to be worried about anyway?

Appreciate any advice, thanks :)

What program are you using to monitor the temps? Whatever it is try looking for an updated version first. If this still reports the same temps then I would also suggest cleaning your fan filter(s) and the inside of your case if necessary. Compressed air is handy for this.

Hello throdgrain,

those temps are great! :)

If your case airflow isn't gale force then its perfectly normal for the mobo to idle at a higher temp than the processor . . . if you want to cool the board down then it's not too hard to "rig" up a 80mm/92mm/120mm fan to supply additional cooling . . .

If you have access to a hair-dryer that has the option to blow cold air then you can use this to pin-point the area where the motherboards temp sensor is located by pointing the cold-blowing-hair-dryer at various spots on the motherboard until you see the temps suddenly drop in your monitoring software . . . you can then apply your permanent spot cooling!

If everything is working fine at the moment then I wouldn't worry to much, if your mobo temps were like 50°C idle then it would be more pressing but 33°C max mobo temp is sweet! . . . I'm a bit of an OverCooler myself so prefere to keep all the hardware chilly, particularly the RAM sticks, this seems to keep everything running "niggle" free and I suppose in theory extend the life of the hardware!

Which software would be the best to use for monitoring mobo temps, i currently have Hwmonitor installed, the ony temps it displays aside from, CPU/HDD/GPU/CPUTIN is SYSTIN which is sat at 35c idle. Board is an asus p6t deluxe v2.

Lol 33c isn't really bad at all, I remember time back when I had two 4850's in xfire, because the cooler exhausted hot air into the case my mobo reached 70c, reason why I sold them :)

Ok. I was doing my regular cleaning today and noticed that when I removed the fan from the Arctic Cooler below it was a little heat exchanger on the motherboard. I gave it a clean.

The motherboard now idles at 25 deg again and the CPU at 27.

Sorry, I get a bit obessive :) Thanks for you time folks :)

Oh by the way, I use Asusprobe, that came with the motherboard.
