Christian preacher arrested for saying gays were sinful has charges dropped

I hope he sued the police.

He was approached by a PCSO who introduced himself as the force’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender liaison officer

O..M..G what ever next. And we all know the CPS stands for Copper Protection Service.

As much as I hate religion, I really can't believe that someone was arrested for saying that.

Anyway, I'd expect nothing less from our Tory (Lib) government. :p :D

Why should he apologise? Freedom of expression on grounds of religious belief? There are people that still believe in the old testament and its very strong beliefs you know! It's not like he was a muslim minority from Luton inciting racial hatred.

Being religous doesn't make you a loony!

Quite ridiculous imho. True we don't know the content of the leaflets, but they can't be that bad else the CPS surely would have continued to trial. We don't have to agree with the bloke to recognise his right to have his opinion and to voice it. If Muslims can wave "Behead the soldiers" and "Down with the West" banners all day long, I'm quite sure a Christian can go all old testament on our collective arses whether we like it or not. :p

Also:
He was approached by a PCSO who introduced himself as the force’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender liaison officer and said their had been complaints about the leaflets.

LOLTelegraph. :o

Mr McAlpine replied that while he was not homophobic it was his belief that the Bible taught homosexuality was a crime against the Creator.
I believe that the Bible also says that
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
If he had argued that the Bible says that, does it suggest that he has a problem with dentists and opticians

The Bible is a very silly book full of complete nonsense, believing that all of it makes sense may indicate that you are retarded but confirming its contents shouldn't lead to arrest. Silly DIY Copper

It used to worry me that Bush used to "Speak" to God.
I have severe problems with anybody that communicates with imaginary people, I mean what would everybody think if he said he consulted Wolverein. :D
As for being arrrested thats nonsence, he should have been Sectioned. :p

Chief Superintendent Steve Johnson, of Cumbria Police, said: “Our officers and staff often have to make difficult decisions while balancing the law and people’s rights. This is not easy especially when opinions and interpretations differ.

They have to make right decisions, difficult or not and opinion doesn't come into it. Also there is no balancing of rights and laws, there is no conflict except where the plod (plastic or otherwise) hasn't got a clue.

I'd hope there's been some sort of internal investigation as this does sound to me like one copper abusing power to serve his own personal agenda.

Video of the arrest is up on YouTube, but it doesn't tell you much. I can't find the leaflets he was handing out or what he actually said anywhere.
