EA Blocks Multiplayer Mode on Used Games XBOX360/PS3/PC

I'm well aware that Gamestation is owned by Game, believe it or not, I had a summer job working for Game some 10 years ago, back when they took over Electronics Boutique to secure more of the market. They also had lots of underhand policies, such as allowing employees to take home brand new games, play them for three days, then put them back on the shelf as brand new.

Game is still the flagship brand on the high-street and considering how hard they push pre-owned sales, it's odd then that they do not do pre-owned PC games, yet Gamestation do.

I'd imagine that Cex probably do like you say, but then as I said earlier, in regards to second hand DVD sales, they had a different business model, and are not what the Publishers are targeting.

It doesn't matter what technology they use on their servers or what somebody says or thinks on their internet forums. To think that they would make it so that Wii/Xbox/PS3 owners can only play single player games with an internet connection is ludicrous and your living in cloud cuckoo land.

I don't think I need to say anymore, this is the direction ALL games are heading in I'm afraid (and the carrot is Achievements).

Well, I'm very disappointed in this. I can understand them wanting to try and get something back from the 2nd hand market, I view it as quite short sighted of the publishers.
I think one outcome of this will be a drop in the value of 2nd hand games, which in turn makes the people who buy new and then sell on 'pick and choose' with a little more care about which games they buy = less sales.

My major concern with EA talking about this, is the way they handled the Battlefield Bad Company 2 VIP codes. I bought Battlefiled Bad Company 2 brand new, yet had to pay the extra 1200 MS points for the VIP pass as my missus plays it too (imagine if we had 2 or 3 kids too)... I view this as totally unfair, and think that EA will probably do the same for these online passes they're talking about :(

That is one game, and a remake of a retro one for that matter.

What you are suggesting will NOT happen for all single player games. Can you imagine the backlash and the number of returns from people who don't have internet access, or have their console in any number of places which can't use the internet if they did.

Computer games are so big now that it's even the kind of thing which would be on Watchdog if they tried to.

would you have to pay if you had the game on ps3?

Much as I don't like Epic's recent tone, at least they haven't taken down the master servers for UT: GOTY\2003\2004...in fact you still get someone reply on the official forums to server issues and get them fixed :D Now that's service.

Meanwhile with EA you're likely pushed into buying an almost identical clone of the game in new paint when your existing version loses online support after about 12 months
