Hi,
i have a sapphire 5770 card which is not stable when overclocked at any speed above stock speeds.could the problem be my overclocked quad core pc ? or do i just have a card which doesn't like overclocking ? btw its the original sapphire 5770 not the vapor x.

my overclocked pc specs:

Q6600 9x400 = 3.6 @ 1.4v bios (1.3v in everest--1.28v under load) 1.2250vid
pci express 100
kingston hyperx ddr2 850 @ 800 (system multiplier 2.00D)
2.080v
5-5-5-15
cpu pll 1.3937v
mch core 1.400v
1ch i/o 1.570v

i didn't mention other settings because i left them on auto.

is my overclocking wrong ? or is it my graphics card ?

many thanks :)

is it unstable overclocking the core, the memory, or both? What are your load temps like?

i think i've fixed the problem by increasing the voltage to 1.175v (using msi afterburner) my overclock is 950/1300 & load temp is 62/62/70 fan speed 80%.

is this good ? i'm no expert in overclocking so what i usually do is search google & copy what the majority of people do. lol

btw i only overclock my 5770 card before i start gaming & i disable the oc after i finish.

At that voltage 950mhz on the core is pretty good actually! you should be able to hit 1350mhz on the memory aswell.

The temps are really good, are you stable with fans on auto though? 80% fan speed would drive me nuts! shouldn't need them to go above 70%.

Save yourself the hassle of disabling your OC after gaming, The ATI drivers (assuming you're using 9.12 or later) automatically underclock your card to 157mhz on the core and 300mhz on the memory in windows (2D Use). This happens irrespective of MSI afterburner and you can confirm this by looking at the current values section of the ATI overdrive tab in catalyst control center.

Happy days!

i agree about the fan noise but i use headphones so its not causing me any real bother when gaming. :)

edit:

i dont know why but my card will NOW accept overclocking by using the ati ccc aka with stock voltage,i have it @ 900/1300 just played gta & mw2 online & its fine, i hope it stays this way because i much rather use the ccc than using msi afterburner.thanks for the very helpful advice alfie. ;)

edit:
card is unstable again def needs 1.175 v to oc,is there anyway i can add these voltages to the card bios instead of having to use msi Afterburner ?
