Still getting ID'd at 31

or the id could be fake no one ever seems to study them

But they won't lose their license for that.

To a supermarket losing it's license is basically a death sentence so they won't give a cashier that kind of discretion and just make it policy to ask everyone.

The issue here is, they say on signs at the shops ''anyone under 20 should have their id ready and id required to identify themselves when buying alcohol or tobacco'', but I'll be 20 in 11 months and I'm pretty sure they will still ask me then and still not give me 16...

It's usually anyone who looks under 0-25 as a sign saying anyone under 20 would be pointless as the cashier would have to know you are 20 to know not to ask you for id, and to know that you'd have to show them id.

You need to LOOK 20. The Scheme is THINK 21/25 over here, if you look older, then your grand. Look younger, you get ID.
If your the legal age to buy booze/fags then they can't stop you from doing it! ;)

I'm in Stafford and 21.

I get ID'd sometimes. Didn't get ID'd for a crate of beer the other day from ASDA but I did two weeks ago for lighter fluid for a BBQ!

Surely it isn't too much of a bother. I always carry some kind of ID around with me, and the shops would rather be safe than sorry as they'll be bent over backwards if they are caught selling stuff to underage kids!

With me being 14½ stone though, they can surely know that I'm 18+ :-P

Not sure why thats relevant, though. My Brother is only just 18 and he's 22 stone :p

It's 'THINK 25' pretty much everywhere here.

If you have no form of ID/proof of age, then yes they can.

The law is to not let under 18's buy alcohol/knives/stuff but since just looking at someone means jack when it comes to knowing what age someone is, you increase the challenge age to 25 years which gives rather more leeway for staff.

Since the penalties of being caught selling to minors are pretty steep (fines/dismissal/jail/loss of licence) neither the store or the staff really want the risk.

TBH, if a guy looks like he's shaving (or needs to as the case may be) he's very likely to be over 18.

Girls dress up/down and disguise themselves in makeup so it's their own fault for getting ID'd :/

It's fairly hard for a minor to buy in one of the big name supermarkets. If they're on their own then they're likely to be buying very little other than the alcohol which is a good way to get ID'd or they're in a group which makes guessing the age a lot easier.

ID or not someone can still be refused a sale of alcohol if they're drunk/otherwise not with it or it's past the hours arranged on the licence ;)

I think we all know that, n1blo was just making a point that they are unlikely to refuse as long as you have ID.

I'm in Stafford and it happens in Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco, Co-op and the Spar, but not in any of the Stafford pubs. Is anyone else getting this (Stafford or elsewhere), and how old are you? I'm not complaining, just interested, and I take it as a compliment :-) With me being 14½ stone though, they can surely know that I'm 18+ :-P

I'm only 32 and the other day in Tesco I bought an 18 dvd at the self service till and the assistant didn't even ask me, he just glanced up and tapped the option for "obviously over 25" (I think it was):p

It's almost depressing when you don't get asked for ID when the shops rule is that if you look under 25 they'll ask:p

A thread like this always pops up once in a while and I will always say if thats the law and it helps to keep little scrotes away from white lightning and such than so be it. I know sometimes it can be a little awkward when you know dam well your old enougth so why put up with some jumped up git telling you otherwise etc. The only thing that gets my back up is when you get some 16yr old till worker talking down to you like you really are a toddler and that isnt called for at all even more so when you have the appropriate id and never kick off about producing it when asked. Ive been in situations when ive been told that mr policeman will clip my ear and my parents will not like that and im 35 with a haggard face and grey hair (all thanks to my lovley missus lol)
