HGV test tomorrow!

C1 to drive an ambulance?

Ridiculous, a LWB Sprinter is bigger.

I may be wrong but I think its down to the ambulances overall weight, I'd guess (and its only a guess!) than a fully kitted ambulance is over the 3.5ton weight limit of your average sprinter, anything heavier even if its the same size of vehicle needs the C1 licence.

I used to feel the same, now, I'd rather go home than drive a rigid!

Not sure what you mean by "unlimited rigids" though.....

Its a vehicle of unlimited weight and size, that isnt articulated.

You used to have to take 2 tests if I remember rightly to get to what is now Category C, you had your 7.5 on your license to start, then you could take a test to X amount of weight and axles, then another test for unlimited weight and size.

As for not wanting to drive artics, I dont like them, I dont like lorries/trucks full stop, but as I dont want to do courier work or multi drop any more, I dont have any option but to go up. I still have an opportunity to work for Brakes, but that wont come online till september now.

^^

Cheers for clearing that up ,I see what you mean now.

As for an Artic, try one, you'd love it. :D

I spent 8 years on rigids before getting my Class 1 (C+E) yet it still surprises me how I can get such a bigger vehicle in smaller places than I could with the rigids....

Anyway, I think your quite right to not like trucks, seems your a more sensible man than I am.... ;) :o :D

They didnt used to be, and some still are not, here is a problem from wales:
http://www.wao.gov.uk/assets/englishdocuments/WAST Vehicle Procurement Report.pdf

To solve this, I recall a story form a around 7 to 8 years ago that a certain NHS trust bought some american ambulances, that once specced and fitted had 20Kgs or capacity left for the patients and therefore could not be used.

I remember that, what a farce!

Interesting reading (from a transport geek point of view!) anyway, cheers. :)
