Hi,

I'm soon about to change my 57 reg Renault Megane CC 1.5 Privilege.

I'm looking to get a 60 reg Scenic 5 Seat Privilege with Glass Roof.

Will the 1.5 dci be ok or will i need to go to 1.9 dci?

I think the standard Scenic is 25kg heavier than the Megane CC.

Your comments welcome.
Thx

and the 1.9 wont be ? its still only 128bhp (220 lb/ft) vs 106bhp for the 1.5 (177 lb/ft)

They'll both be terribly slow. You may as well have the economy and low tax of the 1.5

I assume OP you are looking at 106bhp version because according to parkers it comes in 84bhp form as well.

This weekend ive been driving a 1.9 dci scenic 2 and its ok, lots of torque but no really go. My parents have the c4 grand picasso 1.5dci and it copes fine. it aint no rocket ship but well that aint expected with the type of car reallly.

the 84 only comes in one trim - the extreme

he wants a privilege which will be the 106bbhp version.

this is my point. None of the scenics have much power. The top of the range engine is the 2.0 diesel with 157bhp but it still only does 0-60 in 9.4

none of the cars are what you'd call "brisk"

bit of a contradiction in terms isnt it ?

a 84bhp MPV only available on the "extreme" model. Extremely what... you wonder :D

Ah yes, missed that.

Well my choice would still be the 1.9, but if your already used to a relatively small engine then 1.5 would probably be fine.

why would the 1.5 not be ok ? what are you worried about ?

I'm just concerned if the 1.5 dci (106) would be underpowered to handle the added weight. I'm not after a boy racer type. Just something that will not be struggling to pull the vehicle.

I did forget to add that it would be driven to france 1-2 per year (Liverpool -> Portsmouth -> St Malo -> Nantes) with 3 adults and luggage.

Pulling the weight shouldnt be a probem, its got plenty of torque.

Go take a test drive and see for yourself, but in my experience of having a 1.9Dci as a hire car, both will feel equally slow.

you cant resist derailing a thread can you ?

surely experience has taught you that questionning these types of purchases rarely if ever changes the mind of the OP and just puts them off posting here.

Asking a question is not derailing. It would be had I asked a question about elephants or something. You seem intent on doing so by choosing to comment on my post rather than the op but that's always the way isn't it.

Why do this? A 60 plate Renault?

I just prefer the interia and equipment spec on the new scenics. Suits my needs nicely. I've looked around and i'm quite happy with the choice I made.

I'm just undecided about the 106 dci or the 130 dci, as I don't want to get an underpowered engine for the vehicle weight.

You'll be doing that anyway, so you need to test drive both before committing. My gut feeling is that the lesser powered engine will be a massively tiring thing to drive all the way down to France.
