What a joke.. Honda Dealer...

or if they do quote you anything they will quote you the "flat rate" not the APR.

Yes, another common issue. The REAL thing you need to get to is the actual cost of the money. In most car finance situations it can be scary but often missed when people look at the nice £200 per month number.

Y
I said "excuse me, you think the first deal wasn't good enough youselfs now? and think you can do better? Your first deal was the deal I will use as how you conduct business, and your business was to try and fleece me for as much as you could before I noticed. Now I've noticed, you want another chance to see if you can actually sell me the car correctly, without fleecing me? No, you've had your chance, other cars out there, don't call me again".

Think that was suitable not too rude IMO.

Quite restrained IMO. You should post this on PH, and get all the dealers on there spluttering their excuses and saying how unreasonable you are being :D

I don’t want car finance. I have no idea why I even allowed them to do me a quote. I had it set in my mind that I would be reasonably looking at between £3800 - £4500 for my old car, and be buying one for around £19000 for a good 2.2 ES GT example.

Leaving me with around £5000 - £6000, bank loan quoted a reasonable APR, not great at 12% however over 36 months, £6000 is £200 ish…

Anyhow, next time I’m in a dealer I’ll make it perfectly clear,

No Superguard packages.
Expect no charges for care package or fuel etc added to screen sticker price
They can give a tank of fuel for my custom
No Finance
What I expect for my car
Full cash deal with my car (no mention of bank loan)

Once this is agreed, I’ll then take the car for a test drive.

I knew it was a Listers dealer from what you said.

I used to work in the Toyota one in Stratford. It's a shocking way of doing business, but you dare move from the 'sales process' and you get your ass handed to you buy your business manager/sales manager.

They make very little money on the metal, and make it all on finance/GAP/delivery pack, which is why they push it so much and brainwash you that PCP is the best way to buy a car, and why would you buy any other way.

Try explaining that to little old Doris who was raised with the attitude "I don't buy it if I haven't got the money (which is the demographic of a Toyota buyer) and it leads to many heated debates with the business manager as to hwy your F&I penetration is low.

Sounds more like it!

Shirrly when you saw all these extras you said NO thanks and they took them out, I find it strange that A: youdidnt ask or B: they stubony said they have to stay.

I've bought many a new car and they've always asked (It would be a poor salesman that didnt) but once and only once they've asked do you want it?, and said not, it's never been bought up again.

And I would have though it was in thier interest to bring it up right at the end,as an extra. whan going through the final order tick sheet.

bullit

I had some examples of this when I went car hunting last year.
I too had 10k cash, not expecting anything for trade in against the Neon as I was going to sell it privately.
Couple of nice Civic type R's at the local Honda dealer, there was me thinking I could get a 3 to 4 year old one for 10k from a dealer, no I can get a 6 to 7 year old one for 10k, unseen, from another member of their dealer network.
No thanks.
Yes I know dealers are not cheap, and yes I know Type R's are not cheap either, but there are not that expensive.

I knew it was a Listers dealer from what you said.

its not just a listers thing

ive bought from Evans Halshaw franchised dealer and a Bristol Street Motors one, both tired exactly the same tactics.

i just told them in no uncertain terms i know its a con, and your wasting your time trying to push them on me.

LOL,

£20k on a honda accord is a total joke, by the sounds of it your old car is perfectly fine?

I would just pocket the cash, you have invested loads in your current car already, just keep it going.

Service it at cheaper mechanics maybe?

Not a total joke. I found one at another Honda Dealer in MK for £18000 same spec just half a year older.... If they don't pile on the extras then its not too bad. I paid quite a lot of money for my 2.4 type s and to be honest.... I'm not going to say I'm not considering keeping it.

i've saved hard to get that 10K, along with everything else.... After what I've seen so far, not too sure 'any' dealer deserves to sell me car if they all act like this..

sure its business, they need to make a profit, however I tend to work on the what I see on the screen is the price I pay... You don't buy a new PC and they have £200 slapped on top for 'dust protection' plan..!! lol

And yes I could have had the extra's taken off, but by the time I'd seen what they were doing, I couldn't be bothered with the car anymore..

as said, my car is perfectly fine. If I do service and MOT it in the next few weeks, then I keep it for another year.

True, however last car I got from the same dealer, 7 years ago we agreed to the figures, nothing extra added and I drove off with the car and a full tank of petrol on a car loan from my bank...

don't remember it being quite so bad.. could have been and I'm now older and wiser and noticed the scam this time around.... I do remember them trying to sell me superguard, but it was optional and I said no.

Probably more aggressive sales tactics on the upsell as Honda have cut their nose off to spite their face by removing nearly everything performance oriented from their lineup.

Now it's mainly oldies and those wanting "something different" who go for the marque.

Well, that’s a bit scary. Just been to Honda UK website searching around for a used ES GT 2.2 and just looked over the new prices. OTR price for this car is listed as £21780.

I am so glad I walked away from this, talk about being rusty with buying a new car. It was only the fact that I had said to myself in my mind soon as the figures arrived something wasn’t right, and already pretty much decided I was walking away that ultimately stopped me. I think it was from then onwards more of a case, lets see where this leads and they had little to no chance of selling me that vehicle.. It was the £500 care package that doomed the deal, and the pathetic part exchange value..

A real lesson learnt here, and it could’ve been a lot worse for me. I could have gone against it all and just purchased – as I really did like the car, it was fantastic to drive and fully loaded for me…. And it had a bit of torque.. I was impressed with the car, not quite to impressed with the deal.. I will now put Car Dealers and sellers up there with Estate Agents and Recruitment agents. Mostly scum.!!

More homework next time, to prevent me from looking like a potential sucker… Phew, disaster averted. One consumer not tucked up and made to feel bad about a purchase that could have cost me more then it should..!!

Appears 20K for a used 59 plate ES GT was a joke afterall..!! :( I feel bad... But also happy in a way. Happy I walked away. lol

Hmmm lol well I'm only 36, and I've already got a Honda Accord.. So guess I just like the marque...

I have noticed they've removed a lot of performance cars from their line up.. To be honest, I've had the Type S, its been fun and all. But that petrol bill isn't going down any... Although saying this, its not the only reason for changing.. I just fancied a new car, kinda losing the taste for it now.

Blimey, what happened to the art of haggling? You need my wife to escort you on your next dealer visit, she'll get you 10% off the sticker price, full tank of fuel, a years tax and a proper valet and if you look closely in your rear view mirror as you drive away, you can almost see the salesman weeping.

Most of the stuff he tried getting you to pay for are supplied by the distribution center as part of the car package! trying to get you to pay for mats is retarded.

if you saw how many perfectly good and clean carpet mats get thrown away from used cars just a few months old would scare you!

i will try to get a photo tommorrow of a weeks worth of carpets mats pulled out of cars during a valet,

Surely being a Honda owner, you should know what a joke the dealerships are anyway?

The ones I've dealt with around cambridge have been absolutely first class. They don't have too shabby figures for dealer satisfaction either.

The one I bought from this time has phoned me 3 times since picking the new car up to see if anythings wrong or how happy I am.

When I bought it I used the same method I always do, broker price minus the parkes guide figure for my car. Work out the difference and tell them thats what I want to pay. Naturally they say they can't get near it and I let them get as close as they can. This time they got within £350 threw in the mats as they always do, tank of fuel and the 12 months tax and got £80 back on my car tax.

I was happy. Lost £350 on the best route to buy and sell but saved me the hassle of advertising a car I knew was on the way out.
