On the road....
I'm starting to think seriously again of something totally daft as my run around, I say daft as I have started working away all week again, not using my car in between at all, perfect excuse for something that would cripple me in day to day useage! :D

I'm very much an e38 7 Series fan having owned one previously, and this time round would not consider a 728i for no other reason than my last was a 728 and I currently have a 328i, time for a new engine I feel....

I'm probably, if I'm honest going to find a late e38 740i but wonder what other options there are?

S Class (Jez)? Audi A8? Jag? (Moeks?)

I must admit, watching all the TV pictures of out Political leaders trundling about in Jags has made me think of them for the first time but I do recall struggling to fit in the XJ I tried when I was initially hunting for my first 7....

Budget around £5k, don't want to go much higher, wondering how much "Car for Cash" I'll get for £5k ish?

I fully appreciate the running costs of big battle barges, I'm not looking for pointers with regard to that, more aspects of the cars themselves if you follow...

Cheers. :)

when i first saw this title i thought of a e38 740i strange eh. My mate has one and for a couple of grand can you really get more car for the money? im struggling to think of any

Get a 166, 3.0 V6 Sportronic. It's a conventional auto with paddles, and if you press "sport" it won't let the engine go below 3500. It'd certainly make you appreciate the running costs...

Also this advert is quite amusing:

:D:D:D

This is really what started me off looking, had a look at it the other day when I was in the area, trouble is, its another 728i but, it was very nice......

If it had been a 740 I probably would have put a deposit on it....

If your insurance direct debits bounce is this a good idea? :p

Not an issue, did you read my reply to that thread???

Can I now have your answer~? :p

The big advantage of the Jag is that it wont look like an old cheap Luxobarge - most people watching the politics of last week will not have noticed that Gordon Brown was in a 10 year old car. A Jag is just that - some Jag.

TBH there is no way i would buy an S-Class for £5k, it will be a liability at the age it will be for that budget. I think you will get considerably better value in the long term out of a BMW equivalent, although personally i would stretch the budget to an E65 rather than an E38 as i just think the E38 looks that bit too far gone now.

Yes, that Blue one he was in was a W reg? Admittedly bullet / bomb proof spec :D looked good for its age. :)

E65 is the more sensible option, trouble is, the styling just does not do it for me however much I entirely agree its the better car....
