I was about to renew my RescueMyCar.com policy when I spotted that they don't cover modified cars (not an issue when I got the policy out last year).

Shame because I like the idea of a network rather than a limited number of vans and their quoted response time of 40 minutes is pretty respectable.

Anyway, can anyone recommend a company that has a good level of service, will cover me in western Europe and will cover my "OMG modified!1" car?

Is this because your car is remapped?

Seriously, they are never going to know at the side of the road so just... forget about it?

ADAC are supposed to be absoultely brilliant (AA cover in the UK for a fraction of the price). Problem is that last time I checked, you have to be pretty handy in German to get cover in the first place :(

Don't you have cover with Flux? I have, but tbh I've not looked into whether they cover you in the EU.

A mate of mine suffered engine failure on the way back from the Ring last year. He paid £37 for cover with Churchill. Although, he did have to pay a fairly sizeable chunk of money to get the car recovered back to the UK.

When are you going?

We have ADAC cover for taking the Golf to France (couldn't find anyone else willing to give breakdown cover for a 22 year old car in Europe)

It was a bit of a bumble getting the cover arranged but really not that bad and I only speak very basic German. They sent us a renewal notice too for this year.

We didn't have to use it in France, but Kate has in the UK when she sheared a couple of wheelnuts and didn't fancy driving further after re-tightening the wheel.
She phoned ADAC on the number provided, the guy who answered was a bit bemused that someone English, in England, had ADAC cover but regardless he got the road details/location sorted and an AA flatbed was there within the hour.

Remapped, cat back exhaust and rear anti roll bar. Nothing major but of just three exclusions to cover, modified cars were specifically stated as not being covered, underlined in bold so they obviously want to make it pretty clear.

Eidolon- That looks perfect, thanks for that.

ADAC is tempting but I haven't spoken German since I was at school!

Seriously they aren't going to worry or even notice those mods. It's like being worried because you installed a Fram air filter.

You are probably right. If it had been in the small print I wouldn't have given it a second thought but they do make a big thing of it on the renewal notice.

I got european breakdown cover thrown in with my insurance cover from Adrian Flux for my Chevy Camaro. Getting european cover for a modified american car was a bit of a deal clincher tbh.

I've been with the RAC ever since i started driving, they have recovered my modified car in the UK and sorted me out when i broke down in Germany, however they didn't actually get to see the car when it was broken in Germany but i doubt they would have kicked up a fuss.
