Core i5 750 - trying to get past 4ghz...

thanks for all the help fellas. I now have an 8 hour run of OCCT with no errors at 4ghz - 200x20

Voltages were

CPU - 1.2625
IMC/VTT - 1.15
DRAM - 1.6
CPU PLL - 1.8
PCH - 1.05
CHA/B DATA - 0.5

TEMPS on the hottest core got no higher than 65 degrees.

Gonna turn on OCCT now and go to work.

edit 67 degrees in coretemp. i'm running the medium data set in occt - is that the one to use or should i be using the large data set?

WOW!! No matter what i do it seems I need to take Vtt above 1.21 to get 20x200 stable. On 1.28 now. Still at least it's lower than the 1.34 I did have it on (seemingly quite happily, I might add) before I read the i5 is allegedly slightly crippled in this area compared to i7 (why - who knows?). Need about 1.36 on the Vcore aswell. What are your Dram voltages? I've only tweaked the main Dram voltage and the other ram voltages are on auto.

dram voltages are on auto except for the main one at 1.6. i was running at less vcore and vtt than that - i'd primed for 7 hours and had no errors but when i was playing bc2 last night i kept crashing to desktop.

To be fair i expect to find occt stopped with errors when i get home as i've got few wierd messages from explorer since i starting taking volts down.

I was originally at 4ghz with vcore on 1.3 and vtt on 1.25 and that felt really stable but i'm trying to back off as much as possible so as not to nuke my chip....(it's the best clocker i've ever had so i don't want to work it into an early grave)

BS Dave - You got LLC enabled? Run IBT a few times as this makes it as hot as it can go then report back on temps:).
With VVT at that low voltage I am almost certain you will bsod or fail IBT if you run it many times (20+).

mglover - yes have LLC on. I figured i'd rather do that than have higher voltages all day long - i've an expensive psu enermax 625 82+ and motherboard p7p55d pro (well ish) so i think the power supply should be pretty smooth - and a quick glance at the graphs from occt didn't show any massive spikes

I've not run intel burn test, but now have passes from OCCT of 8 and 12 hours on medium data set and 8 hours on high data set.

Max temps 67 (in OCCT) and 68 in Core Temp

How long does 20 runs of IBT take then?

QPI is set to 32 btw - will do burn test tonight and let you all know - i'm buoyed by my success' in OCCT - i was sure it was gonna fail.

What temps can i expect from IBT about 10 degrees more than OCCT/prime?

success 20 runs and no bsod or reboots max temp was 78 degrees. i'd post me desktop (which i did a print screen of it i knew how - how do i do that?)

Hopefully that's it. Thanks all for the help

Dave

And here's the proof!!

Woah! I think you officially have the best i5 ever created :) I wouldn't even get into windows with those settings :( Wouldn't be surprised if you could get at least 4.2 and maybe even 4.4 with sensible volts and temps!
