Needs me a recommendation, lawyers - know a good one?

Most solicitors and lawyers charge upwards of £150+Vat an hour.

She could be looking at a 4 figure bill if she isnt careful. I think simply asking for a 'good lawyer' isnt what you need to be doing.

Does she live on a private estate? (eg, one of the numerous new builds around, where the roads haven't been adopted by the council yet and private companies get to run riot)

If it was park on the public highway and removed by a private company for no reason, it's theft (TWOC), or maybe Wrongful Interference to Goods Act 1977.

If it was on a private road, they aren't allowed to remove the vehicle for previous private debts unless there is a warrant to support them.

We're more than willing to help, having your car taken away and destroyed isn't a nice thing to happen, but we need to know what's going on to offer accurate advice.
A solicitor would rapidly cost more than the value of the car.

I shall enquire for more details when she gets back from work.

For reference, I believe the initial step is that she wants a letter drafted to the person(s) in question outlining how they have acted unlawfully and how she would much rather settle this without any further escalation and see how it goes from there.

That is the reason I am asking for a recommendation - given some legal practices have a free hour consultation, etc. this should not drive the costs too high for having said letter written.

Any useful advice is most appreciated, people not able to understand the why's etc. aren't so much. I live no where near her and was just seeing about recommendations, and have no desire to be sucked into this mess.

However she is my sister. And I'm trying to help.

I don't know - and I'm not sure how that would affect you being able to recommend someone.

Okay, how much was the car worth roughly? How many hours of a solicitor will cost more than the car?

People have already said to try the CAB.

ps, check your trust email.

Fox, if you don't have anything useful to say - why persist?

On the contrary what I and a few others have said is more useful to you than you'd care to admit.

Basically - 'Recommend me a good lawyer' is NOT the answer to the 'How can I help my sister who doesnt have the money to replace the car she feels was illegally crushed' question.

The sooner you see this the sooner you can actually help your sister.

You could replace the car for the money you'd pay for GOOD representation.

A lawyer is the wrong answer. The right answer is self representation through small claims, the CAB, etc.

Very few people here will be able to recommend a good lawyer because very few private individuals can justify or afford using a good lawyer to sort problems out.

I completely agree with Fox, a "good" lawyer will cost you the earth, probably a great deal more than the car is worth, or a new (used) one will cost.

Get some free legal advice first at the very least.

If you don't know of one, then fair play - I won't hold it against you.

But as I said, does anyone have one they can recommend?

I know you all are trying to help (though with some, I'm struggling to see how) however, your input on alternative approaches, appreciated as it is, isn't relevant to the question at hand.

If the answer is no, then cool.

It's incredibly frustrating having to argue why I have been asked if I can help provide a certain amount of information, when the question has a yes no answer.

I could launch a tirade of how I used to work for the County Court and Small Claims Court, and have also had the unfortunate pleasure of taking several people to small claims court. Even when I had to deal with some copy right infringments, I had to use some small legal advice, etc. ad. inf.

But that's not the point of this thread.

Resist the urge to try and be right - even if you are. It doesn't change that I am only asking for anyone is able to make any recommendations. (bah, power of english is failing me now).

I think this is the day when mojojoejo realises we are not here as a free and personal alternative to 118 118, and that he should be grateful for any replies he gets, which we take the trouble to write for him at nil cost.
